Why I’m running.

My name is Aron Johnson;
I’m the oldest son of a single mother in the eastern corner of our state, I’m an organizer for Democratic Candidates, whether they’re running for Mayor or for President, and I’m a fighter for a more progressive vision for our state and for our district. I’m not running to boost my resume, I’m running to give the Democrats in our district a voice and a path forward for a more progressive district. As Chair we’ll accomplish 3 things:
- We’re going to defeat Ted Budd. Congressman Budd has spent his term in congress fighting for the wrong priorities, priorities including stripping 300,000 of his neighbors with preexisting conditions of their hard earned healthcare. This won’t be an easy goal to meet, but, by organizing our precincts, training our county leaders, and raising the funds needed to support our Democratic nominee, whoever that may be, we can get the job done.
- We’re going to flip seats on our school boards, county commissioners, city councils, and even seats in the North Carolina General Assembly. My job as your Chair isn’t only going to be elect a Democratic member of congress, it’s going to be about fighting to secure Democratic victories in all corners of our district. We’ll accomplish this goal by working with you to recruit candidates that represent our shared values, establishing a presence in our communities beyond our traditional monthly meetings, and by working to adequately fund our county parties to ensure you have the resources you need in order to be successful.
- I’m going to listen. I’ve listened as your First Vice Chair and I’ll continue to listen as your Chair. Why? Because my priority is to ensure you have a partner to help you set a direction for your counties. At the end of the day counties are the backbone of our district, none of the work we will do over the next two years will be possible without the work done by each of you.
In closing I will make you this promise: I’ll never stop fighting for what’s right, I’ll never stop listening to the issues that are near and dear to your heart,and I’ll never stop being a partner on our shared goal of building a district party that works for all of us.
