The December Pizza Experiment: Delissio Pizzeria Vintage Pepperoni
First things first. Since my initial review was of a pepperoni pie, I’ve decided that all reviews will be of pepperoni, unless, of course, I change my mind.
Why?
Well, because I like pepperoni pizza best. But, more importantly, it’s most fair to compare apples and apples. Kind of hard to compare pepperoni pie with, say, a mushroom garlic one, no?
Okay. On to business. It’s a pretty box. Should be for the $9 retail price. The box is big so the buyer thinks the pie will be big as well. Not really. It’s an okay size, significantly smaller than the box.
So. On to the tasting.
There’s definitely some weirdness brewing here. It’s not super overt and it’s not anything that’s easy to describe. But you’re eating it and just when an unpleasant sensation seems like it’s about to hit, it doesn’t.
This is actually an edible pie. Really.
The sauce and dough are okay. Not great at all, not awful. Kind of reminiscent of the chef boyardee pizza from the 60s that came in a box and you made yourself.
The cheese and pepperoni are, well — and I can’t believe I’m writing this — better than pretty good. Salty but not overly so, substantial but not heavy, with a taste that is just a little bit resonant.
Here’s the thing about this pie and the foundation of this review:
I’ve been taking turns eating and writing for the past 20 minutes. It’s “enjoyable” to eat this pizza.
So, the final verdict is a mark of 80% for this pie. You should consider acquiring one.
