Emotional Intelligence is a trending body of knowledge. In some certain areas of life personal relationships and professions it has been noted that The EQ (Emotional Quotient) is more important than the IQ (Intellectual Quotient) according to communication, leadership and professional development and long term satisfying relationships. Many Emotional Intelligence directions focus on eliminating or reducing negative emotions or on how to best control them.

Yes, it is important to use transformational techniques to eliminate negative emotions. Emotional Intelligence with NLP does this very precisely and with tools you have in your hand and can apply. In Emotional Intelligence with NLP you learn how to create, design and program yourself with the emotions you wish to feel more.

What is it you really want to feel? So many of my clients will answer with what they do not want to feel anymore. For example: Stress, frustration, disappointment, anger, fear, humiliation, sadness, despair. Typically, we can talk a long time about what disturbs us and what we wish to avoid.

Any emotion is to be valued and addressed. Emotions that make us suffer need to be transformed through techniques that measure the success. We need to re-imprint and use “re-programming techniques to so this sufficiently.

When I studied this phenomenon that humans seem to be more connected to their limiting emotions I found out that it has simply to do with the intensity of the emotion. I said to myself: We just need to create higher intensity around the emotions we want to feel. I had to sit myself down and work; listing all the emotions that make humans feel good and that we would rather feel. I found out that we must have a minimum of ten available to us to program ourselves to feeling the way we want to feel. It is important that we strengthen the neuro-intensity of these emotions. This can be done by focus, repetition and awareness. I called this technique “Paint the Rainbow of our Emotions”.

This is exactly the point where Emotional Intelligence and NLP meet. With my 33 years of experience of working with people I concluded that we need to have hands-on tools, we need to have techniques that help us practically and daily.

This rainbow of emotions is unique to you. No one can tell you which emotions to choose. Here just some examples. Please extend and increase this list for yourself.

Relaxation, Gratitude, Love, Excitement, Resilience, Let Go, Enthusiasm, Joy, Happiness, Euphoria, Laughter, Endurance, Persistence, Sensitivity, Pride, Dignity, Powerfulness, Serenity, Happiness, Resilience, Let Go, Endurance, Inspiration, Serenity, Contentment, Satisfaction, Fulfilment, Passion, Gratefulness, Trust, Sensuous, Confidence, Comfort, Hope, Awe, Amusement, Fun, Peace… and more

These are the typical “feel good” emotions.

I invite you to design your Rainbow of Emotions in form of prioritization according to the need to practice. The outer layer and color would paint the emotion you must remind yourself more of most. The inner layer is what you are already capable of feeling but more practice will be good.

In my example: I certainly aspire peacefulness and relaxation. This would be the outer layer of the rainbow with its color. The next layer of the rainbow would be comfort and contentment. Then I designed one important emotion for myself called “the inner smile”. Last but happiness, joy and fun as the next layer of the rainbow. My favorite emotion is laughing which would be the inner layer of the rainbow.

The layers help as of our focus. If you have the time and love the visual part of life, please get paper and paint and literally paint a large rainbow of colors. Then write your chosen emotions onto index cards and stick them onto the rainbow. In this way you can continuously change and place the emotions you need more into the outer layer, and prioritize all others accordingly. All of the emotions of your rainbow conscious reminders, consistent practice and overall awareness and alertness.

Sometimes I forget… and literally must remind myself how to step into these emotions I wish to feel more. Join me in painting the rainbow of emotions you wish to fee more and join me in practicing the Rainbow of Emotions daily maybe even hourly.
