Do you like monster movies? If yes, Godzilla is definitely the film of your choice.

Intense action scenes, amazing camera shots and good visual effects make this blockbuster one of the best monster movie ever.

Spoilers in the next lines, so if you haven’t seen the movie, stop here.

Godzilla is basically a movie about monsters, or like they call them in the movie, titans fighting each other.

The plot is silly, but for a movie like this, that is irrelevant. We are not sit in the cinema to reflect on the fate of Humanity but to be entertained by the big monsters on the screen.

So, forget about the purpose of Monarch (that’s the organization dedicated to the study of the Titans), that Dr. Emma Russel (Vera Farmiga) thought that unleashing monsters would be a good thing and that the earth is hollow.

This is just a monster movie.

The movie is full of action scenes, almost since the beginning. It’s a good thing because the camera shots are extremely appealing.

The scenes are framed in a way we can see everything we need. The movement of the camera allows us to see the details of the monsters and the scenarios without unnecessary shaking. That creates an immersive experience. It’s not rushed like in most action movie where we have lots of 1 or 2 seconds cuts. Here, we can enjoy the monsters in all of their glory.

I’m very critical about how they present the action. For example, in the Transformer’s movies, the scenes are a mess. Robots are so tangled in the fighting scenes that we cannot distinguish the robots.

The excess of cuts and shaking in fighting movies drives me crazy. I want to see the details of everything. Probably, when directors decide to do this, they want to hide a lack of talent, a not well-executed scene or not so realist CGI (computer generated images).

Godzilla shows the path for what a good monster movie is. Similar to Jurassic World, or the first Pacific Rim movie, aesthetics is very important especially when they portrait something that doesn’t exist in real life.

All of the Titans on the movie are incredibly beautiful and so credible that we forget that they not exist.

In the end, Godzilla is the king of the monsters and deserves better ratings than the 46% in the Metacritic’s website or 40% in the Rotten Tomatoes’ website.

For me, it’s an excellent entertaining movie to sit and relax with a bucket of popcorns.

My classification: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 stars)
