Just Because They Say They Are Bad People
It’s not always the case
At first, I didn’t care about who my neighbors were, as I was a lonely guy (I guess I still am a lonely guy).
After moving into the new house, I heard from many people that there was this family that was racist, had mental issues, and was not good.
Being the dumb person that I was, I blindly listened to these people and started not to like this family.
And of course, as these people said, the family started to cause chaos after we moved into the house. At this point, I shouldn’t have doubted what those people said about this family, as I was seeing what they were doing, right?
The day ended, and the family came to us and apologized to us (unexpectedly) for the chaos they caused.
I knew there was more to learn about this family.
Some days went by and we started to have chit-chat every once in a while (Rule n.1: An introvert will never start a conversation), and they changed my point of view.
Why, you may ask? I couldn’t see any reason why people hated them. They were the exact opposite of what people described them as they were nice, they gave us a lot of gifts, and they seemed to care.
It took me a while (actually, years) to finally understand what I had to do: to investigate everyone around me.
And not surprisingly, here’s what I found out.
Apparently, “these people” were the problem. These people would break laws (sure, unintentionally), and the family would always warn them about not breaking the law, or there would be consequences (this is where the chaos started).
And honestly, who wouldn’t get pissed at people breaking rules? Don’t tell me.
After understanding the whole situation, I felt ashamed and guilty, and since that incident, I have become a better person. I often think about them and thank them for helping me see the actual world.
Important lessons I learned
- Never judge someone just because everyone else does.
- If you need to hear what they have to say about someone, learn about them first.
Until next time.
