Crypto Space Commander

A Peek at the Future of Gaming

My intention in writing this is twofold; firstly, to raise awareness of a truly groundbreaking project, Crypto Space Commander (CSC). Secondly, as a guide for potential players who are not yet familiar with crypto.

What is Crypto Space Commander? In a nutshell CSC is a sandbox space MMO, with a 2D top-down view. Imagine a tactical space game like Star Control, with an economic system similar to EVE Online. What makes this game different is that it uses the blockchain ledger of Ethereum to record and transfer ownership of all assets used within the game.

Star Control + EVE Online + Ethereum = Crypto Space Commander

Unlike the games I have played until now, actions made within the CSC universe will directly earn or cost me money. All of the ships, modules, ore, etc. in the game hold equal value in real life. Let me give an example of this because it is important. In “Some Random MMO” I kill mobs, I take their gold and resources. I use the resources to craft stuff, gold to buy better gear. But outside of that game, the gold and crafty stuff is useless. Not so in CSC, due to its use of Ether as it’s native currency.

The Ethereum blockchain requires the use of it’s (crypto) currency, Ether. Ether can initially be acquired through gateway sites like Coinbase. To then utilize your newly acquired Ether, to fund your CSC adventures, you can use a browser plugin called Metamask. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give this whole process a tech difficulty rating of 3. It may seem complicated at first, but don’t worry, a couple informative YouTube vids can guide you into the crypto market in minutes. The same gateway site can later be used to sell your access Ether for cash (aka Fiat).

CSC is still in development by Lucent Sight, a legit, AAA software development company out of California. Their roadmap starts the alpha/testnet this June, beta/mainnet in August and full release in December. Ships are currently available for purchase on their website; included with each pre-sale purchase is an invitation to alpha test. At the time of writing this, prices of available ships range from 0.045 to 0.75 Eth (roughly $30 — $500 USD).

If interested in joining the CSC community, follow this link to the enlistment page. It is completely free to join, all you need is a verifiable email address and the public address of your Ethereum wallet (from Metamask for example).
