The Aim of Arrow

Arrow aims to be a truly private version of digital cash: secure, private, easy to use, accessible to all.

Transactional privacy is increasingly scarce. Companies harvest customer data, turn around, and sell it to third parties. Even worse, this data is often compromised and used for more nefarious means. Current cryptocurrency solutions have not delivered an accessible, easy to use, truly private payment system that enforces private transactions.

Arrow is a block one fork of Zcash with a number of upgrades, including mandatory shielded transactions, faster block times, a lower founders’ reward, a larger mining reward for the first two years following the genesis block, and reduced overall inflation. Arrow’s goal is to make its improved technology as accessible to as many people as possible around the globe. The Arrow user experience will be intuitive enough to allow a completely new user to send money to another person or vendor while retaining their privacy.

Mission

  • Be like cash, only digital. Make truly private transactions that are permissionless, accessible, and global.
  • Be a competitive payment mechanism.
  • Be easy. Deliver high-tech solutions that anyone can use, even the less tech-savvy among us.
  • Be decentralized and open-sourced. Arrow will be community-driven, open for everyone to mine and use.

Zcash introduced revolutionary privacy technology to the world but did not mandate that each transaction be private. Currently, only approximately 0.36% of Zcash transactions are fully private. This limited use of private transactions results in security issues for the entire chain because nonprivate transactions can be used to discover information about the private ones. Monero has mandatory privacy, but some flaws enable astute observers to reveal information about many of the transactions, despite the protections.

Arrow combines the best of both worlds: cutting-edge privacy technology from Zcash and a mandate that every single transaction be private. Through this technology, Arrow hopes to produce the single best example of private, digital cash in existence.

Arrow’s mainnet launched in early July, and the response from the mining community was amazing. The hashrate exceeded expectations and Arrow recently broke the milestone of 100,000 blocks having been mined. We have been working extremely hard behind the scenes on further developing Arrow. Arrow’s lead developer, Jayson, gives some comments on the Arrow Explorer that he has been working on. “Our block explorer integrates at the protocol level. It doesn’t require an external node to connect with the network, and it’s compatible with every Bitcoin- and Zcash-based blockchain.”

What we are focusing our attention on now:
- Finishing Block Explorer
- Wallet bug fixes/Improvement
- Web Wallet
- Following Road Map timeline
