Arrow — Winter Update
Snow falls softly outside, the crackle of the fireplace fills the air with feelings of festivity and warmth, and companies still don’t care about your data. At the risk of sounding too repetitive, it is remarkable how frequently these types of data breaches happen, across almost every industry.
These occurrences, however, serve as a constant reminder of why Arrow’s goals are so important. Data privacy is paramount, and it starts with transactional privacy.
We have made significant progress across multiple fronts over the past few months and wanted to provide the community with an update. In early December we released the official ‘lite’ wallet for Arrow. This wallet offers significantly faster sync times and ease of use improvements. The first version of the lite wallet does not yet allow for private key importing (we are working hard on this feature) but users can still send their ARW from the original wallet to the lite version if they prefer to use it going forward.
In addition, with the help of several members of the Arrow community, we recently solved some common issues with the Quiver wallet, including private key importing and a reindexing issue. This leads to more seamless syncing and less issues with stalling.
Of course, one of the most important components of any Proof of Work cryptocurrency is the miners who power and secure the network. We would like to give a shout-out to everyone mining and participating in the Arrow network, as none of this would be possible without you. With that in mind, we were proud to see that Arrow was integrated into Hashr8 mining services. Hashr8 is a leading operating system for miners and this integration makes mining Arrow easier, more energy-efficient, and more user-friendly. Fostering a strong network of miners is crucial to the long term success of Arrow and will work to increase decentralization and network security.
On the future development front we are happy to announce that the Arrow testnet is up and running. This will allow the community to more seamlessly test and integrate future updates to the chain. On that note, the Arrow team has announced a fork that will take place to correct the mining reward step-down. This is expected to take place January 6, 2020. You will need to ensure you are up to date with the latest Quiver update (0.1.7) by then.
As noted above, over the past few months, multiple talented developers have joined and contributed to the Arrow project. They have been hard at work engineering improvements along with our lead developer Jayson. Being that this is an open-source project, the Arrow team is constantly looking for new developers to add to the team. If you have interest in contributing please reach out to one of the moderators in our Discord channel. We also have roles available for non-developmental work, so please do not hesitate to reach out to a team member if you think that you could contribute on the project.
We are also pleased to announce that Arrow recently won a community vote and will soon be listed on the SafeTrade exchange. In addition to that, we have fulfilled the requirement for LuxGate. The community chipped in to contribute the necessary amount of LuxCoin required to get listed. Kudos to you all, especially those that contributed. We realize folks need a place to buy and sell arrow and we are thrilled to see the strong support from the community vote.
Going forward, we will continue to focus on our core tenets of usability and privacy, providing transactional privacy to as many people as possible. This means integration into additional wallets and further improvements to the mining/user experience.
In conclusion, we would like to thank everyone in the Arrow community for all of their help along the way. This has been an incredible year! We have some amazing moderators and contributors and it has been a real joy working with them to accomplish a common goal that we hope will improve the lives of people in some way.
