DevConf 2019–2 days experience at Mozilla Booth
DevConf.IN is the annual developer’s conference organised by Red Hat, India. The conference provides a platform to the FOSS community participants and enthusiasts to come together and engage in knowledge sharing activities through technical talks, workshops, panel discussions, hackathons and much more. This was my 2nd year attending DevConf.
Last year I attended DevConf 18 as an attendee and this year as a volunteer for Mozilla Booth.
We talked about Common Voice, Localization, A-Frame.
On day 1 of DevConf (2nd August 2019), we started with our booth setup which was taken care of by few of our Mozillians and the booth was setup and ready by 9am.
It looked something like this after the setup.
Just after the keynote which ended at 10:00am we started getting huge crowd of attendees and within a couple of hours our booth was turned to something like this
We explained about Common Voice and Localization on first day and got most of the attendees to start contributing to Common Voice right there on the booth.
People enjoyed contributing to Common Voice and were interested to explore more about it, how it works and how they can access the data of common voice.
The crowd kept on increasing on the booth, I had plans of attending a couple of talks but the crowd on the booth was so huge that I ended up spending most of the time on the booth talking to people about the products and initiatives of Mozilla and how they can get involved in Mozilla community.
By the end of the day 1 we did around 92% of daily goal for Common Voice contributions
We wrapped up the booth at around 4.00pm on day 1 of DevConf.
On day 2 of DevConf (3rd August 2019), we reached and did all the booth setup at 9.00am. Right after completion of Opening keynote, we started getting huge crowd at our booth from 10.00am.
Second day was also similar to first day and most of the time was spent on the booth. We received a lot of Common Voice contributions from many attendees and we reached more than 100% of daily contributions for Common Voice on day 2.
Second day we wrapped up the booth around 4.00pm and then we had a group photo with all the booth volunteers (I have not received that photo yet so not including it in this).
At the end, we had a meeting with all the Mozilla Volunteers to discuss and share our feedback and we started thinking and planning for the next upcoming event for Mozilla Bangalore
Both the days were very interesting, I enjoyed a lot. I talked to people from different backgrounds which included students and professionals.
Since, this was my first time as a volunteer at booth, I was really amazed seeing the huge crowd who were interested to contribute to the community and were eager to know more on how to get more involved with the community.
I think this was my best developer event till now. I met a lot of Mozillians and Members from Red Hat and other open source community.
