Hey guys! Today I will be sharing my last 1 year experience of Open Source and how I got involved into Open Source.
- Aug 3, 2018 — Before this date for me Open Source was 😕 🤔 🤷♂️.
- Aug 4, 2018 — Attended DevConf 18, understood what exactly is Open Source. Created my first ever pull request in first-contributions repository.
- Aug 26, 2018 — Landed my first patch in Firefox WebExtensions API (Happiest day of my life). 🙌
- Sep 01, 2018 — Got to know about Hacktoberfest. 😯
- Sep 23, 2018 — Moved most of my personal projects (Android Apps and Libraries) to Github public repositories from Bitbucket and created some easy issues for Hacktoberfest in all of my repositories.
- Oct 01, 2018 — Received around 60 pull request across all my repository by 8am IST (Merged all those 👍). I was like 🤯 seeing all those PR’s.
- Oct 10, 2018 — Created my personal portfolio in ReactJs and deployed on Github Pages Arshad Portfolio.
- Oct 31, 2018 — Merged 100+ PR’s across all my repositories in this month. Contributed to all the projects which were participating in Hacktoberfest 2018. (This included, Microsoft VS Code, OpenEBS, Nexomo, Ada, Auth0, Kong, Umbraco, SendGrid).
- Nov 01, 2018 — Launched ak-cli project to create a list of commonly used commands.
- Dec, 2018 — Launched two projects which I am a bit proud of first-issues and squash (I will be writing more blogs about all of my projects in detail).
- Jan, 2019 — Created first organization gh-conf (Home for small tools around Github configuration utilities).
- Feb, 2019 — Got opportunity to maintain ReactJs Hindi Documentation, taken that opportunity and have been maintaining the repository with Saransh Kataria for around 10+ months and counting.
- Mar 2019 — July 2019 — Created multiple NodeJs / Python utilities, CLI tools and libraries.
- Aug, 2019 — Attended DevConf 2019, hosted Mozilla Booth at the event for two days. (You can read more about this at DevConf 2019–2 days experience at Mozilla Booth)
- Oct, 2019 — Participated in Hacktoberfest 2019 and maintained a repository hacktoberfest-xrepos to track list of repositories in which PR was not getting counted for Hacktoberfest PRs.
- Nov, 2019 — Got opportunity to maintain GatsBy Hindi documentation, taken the opportunity. (Currently working on getting the complete documentation translated into Hindi).
This is my Open Source journey timeline till today. Throughout my journey I have worked on and build a lot of projects for which I will be writing more detailed blogs.
For closing notes, I don’t want to say anything, I will just share the Github contributions heat-map of before and after this journey.
