He was named Ahiga. A Navajo. He was a warrior. Even his name — Ahiga — meant “fighter”. It was no surprise that he was known for his ability to strategize in a conflict; to fashion weapons and to fiercely protect the tribe. His reputation for taking action was known far and wide.

But this day, as he reflected on his wins and of his legacy of some seven decades as a tribal leader, he was saddened, believing that age had stolen his enthusiasm, his drive, and his energy.

For solace, he began leafing through the Bisahalani (which means Orator or He Who Speaks — translated loosely from the original Navajo). He came to a single line about Cause that transfixed his attention and a shudder went through his body:

“Does not the flowing water create its own channel?”

He paused…his thoughts racing, turning upside down…and back again.

And in an instant, he was young again.

“…aging is caused by a lessening ability to
confront action. That is all. It’s not because the person can’t,
but he merely ages because he believes he can’t.”
L. Ron Hubbard, 3 April 1962
