I’m not quite sure I understand why you’d want to be left of the Democratic Party. Progressivism seems to me to be just one step removed from socialism. The further left one goes the further away from personal freedom and liberty.
Given your clearly knowledgeable political understanding, it baffles me as to how it doesn’t become instantly clear that the more a society moves towards progressive goals the further away from independent thought and action one moves. The more reliance upon the State and collective action one has to condone. It is from Progressive action that the Deep State has arisen.
That is not to say that progressive ideals and altruistic intent don’t have merit. No, they not only have merit but also my dearest admiration for there humanitarian intentions. However, acknowledging the noble intent, intentions are seldom if ever cross referenced with the actual outcomes to see what the cost benefit or liability ratios are. Nor are they examined with an eye towards what changes have occurred as a result and what modifications or even elimination of policy must be done next.
This is how you wind up with a regulatory framework that strangles any creativity, but does manage to create unprecedented levels of bureaucracy. Adding ever more dependency upon the managerial elite types to plan for and account for every contingency, which, of course causes its own form of dependency, thru creating crisis for crisis sake.
Having said all that, I must say that I’ve enjoyed reading your perspectives and concur completely with the need to curtail the machinations of the Deep State. I’m just not sure how that can be accomplished while simultaneously seeking State intervention into economic, social and familial affairs in order to promote some sort of egalitarian utopia.
I have thus far acquired much admiration for your writing, and I suppose your viewpoint (agreeable or not), as with it I expect to glean a lot of knowledge and insight into the political establishment of both the Democrats and Republicans.
