I certainly don’t see how this “Greatest Generation” can make any over-arching claim of having left the country in better shape than they found it. Not by a long shot.

This generation was indeed probably the first to leave its successor in worse shape. One look at Nixon, excluding Watergate, and his policies, particularly economic, shows just how inept. Never mind the corruption, just look at wage and price freezes, the elimination of the (sort of) gold standard. The signing of COLA. Some conservative that guy was.
