As for labeling groups, sure enough. But in my lifetime, and I am no spring chicken, I have never heard an entire class of people labeled “enemies of the American people” by anyone that I recall, certainly not by anyone with any real power.

I used to be in archaeology, which is some science and a lot of conjecture.

True dat. I do think that journalists need to stop fictionalizing the news by way of frameworks and narratives. All news has at least two and often many sides and to promote one while distancing others is the real crisis in journalism today.
