I’m also going into my junior year studying CS and this is very relatable. My experience at Michigan has been that many, many students get swept into this rat race where they consider themselves a failure if they don’t get a big 4 internship. They stay up late working on school work without truly understanding why what they’re learning is important, mental health falling apart in the competitive environment. They forget that their career is just beginning, and not ending, at graduation. At the very least, that was me and a decent number of my friends.

I’ve felt disillusioned with the culture and discouraged with the sheer technical vastness that computer science is. But I enjoy the challenge, and I know that software is full of opportunities to make an impact and live a good life. I keep putting in work because one day, I believe that curiosity will become passion :)
