The hot problems in academic philosophy right now are definitely starting to get pretty abstract, but that’s natural given that we have been building on ideas for thousands of years. 2000+ years ago it was a novel idea that everything is made of some form of water, and worth entertaining. In modern context, that’s just too simple and we know better. Philosophers today are pushing highly abstracted concepts, but that’s just what philosophical innovation looks like now. I think the problem is not with the direction philosophy is headed, but more that people don’t understand how other, more accessible areas of philosophy can make their lives better.
