Verizon and Ericsson have expanded their 4G LTE alliance to incorporate new markets. Ericsson made the announcement a couple of days ago that it has increased its footprint in the U.S by expanding its 4G collaboration with Verizon to include other new markets.

This expanded collaboration integrates the Ericsson Radio System 4G LTE solution which in addition to facilitating the newest advances in 4G LTE facilities, will also offer a 5G-ready platform that will enable Verizon to swiftly transition to 5G when they set up the service in these new markets.

These new markets will be deployed utilizing the latest baseband and dual band radios of Ericsson. The new facility will be software upgradeable to 5G and will distribute NB-IoT and CAT-M for substantial Internet of Things use cases, and industry leading network capacity.

Ericsson and Verizon have closely collaborated to propagate the evolution of LTE by utilizing LTE Advanced features, enhancing speed and capacity of the Verizon 4G LTE network.

It is of great import to mention that in 2017, Ericsson and Verizon used the newest technologies to achieve various industry milestones which include:

· Surpasses 1Gbps Speeds on the Verizon 4G-LTE network, using the 3-carrier aggregation

· Attained 953 Mbps by merging unlicensed and licensed bands with 4-carrier aggregation, 256 QAM and 4x4 MIMO in a real life network setting in Florida

Ericsson and Verizon attained another milestone in the 4G LTE-Advanced technologies that serves as a springboard to 5G by completing their first ever deployment of Frequency Division Duplexing (FDD) Massive MIMO (Multiple Input — Multiple Output) on Verizon’s wireless network in Irvine, CA.

Speaking on the advances seen in this milestone testing, Horizon Communications Founder & CEO Gilbert A. Darrell stated: “This shows, yet again, that wireless technology will be advancing and leapfrogging other network technologies in speed, lower cost of deployment and time of deployment. This is exactly why we selected similar technology for Horizon, the future of telecommunications is beyond wires.”

According to the Senior Vice President of Technology, Strategy & Planning of Verizon, Ed Chan, ‘the partnership will continue to be committed to facilitating the best network for Verizon customers. Working with Ericsson enables us to deploy the newest technologies in our 4G LTE-Advanced network which is an important component of our swift transition to 5G’ he was reported saying.

The Head of Customer Unit of Verizon, Ericsson North America, Yossi Cohen, also has this to say about the partnership ‘We will continue to work closely with Verizon to expand the strategic partnership between our companies, to enable Verizon unleash the latest 4G technology and simultaneously plan to launch the 5G in the new markets.

The 4G-LTE deployment is aimed at improving both spectral and energy efficiency, enhancing network facilities for current devices within the market. It is expected that there will be further enhancement as the 5G ecosystem develops. For the customers, the outcome will be swifter speeds for downloading and uploading files, and using apps.

In preparation for the 5G, Ericsson has released the first commercial 5G RAN software which allows operators to switch on the 5G commercial networks when it is ready.
