LTE also coming to smart watches
Samsung is getting set to launch another smartwatch, with the news generating a lot of excitement and conversation within the tech community. There have been speculations and rumors, and a lot of conflicting information spreading all over the internet about the release. In all of the different conflicting stories about the watch, one thing is very sure; the name is no longer a mystery. In the latest listing at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), it was revealed that Samsung has named its newest wearable ‘Galaxy Watch’.
The listing with the FCC also shows that there will be LTE supports on all the four primary wireless carriers with the United States (Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile). It was also reported that there will be support for both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
With LTE smart watches and a torrid of other devices in the consumer market starting to pack wireless technology into their equipment, there is a huge market developing for connectivity for these devices. Although the mystery behind the name of the smartwatch might appear to have been resolved, it is still not known the specific operating system that the watch will operate on. There have been rumors that Samsung will ditch its Tizen operating system and opt for the Android based Google Wear OS. Just recently, another rumor has made it out that the smartwatch will not run on any Android OS but on Tizen 4.0.
Will all the conflicting rumors and stories going about, it means we have to patiently wait to see what operating system Samsung will actually employ for its Galaxy watch. Meanwhile, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) listing revealed some other information about the watch such as the two distinct model numbers. One is SM-R815W (designed for Canada), and the other SM-R815U (apparently for the United States market). Both models measure exactly 51.2mm by 43.4mm and a face display that is measured at 30.2mm, that is 1.2 inches.
According to information gathered from sources close to Samsung, it seems the company will be partnering with different carriers to market and sell the Galaxy Watch. It also appears that it will offer an unlocked version of the smartwatch, just like it used for its Smartphone strategy.
