Verizon hits 1.4 gbps with LTE Fixed Wireless
Although Verizon has been busy hyping its 5G tech and in-bound 5G Home Internet & TV service rollout in many cities within the U.S, the company has not forgotten its 4G. With the partnership of Qualcomm and Nokia, Verizon has declared that it has reached the peak of 1.45 Gbps data speeds on its 4G LTE in NY.
Verizon mentioned that this peak data rate was attained through unlicensed spectrum as well as using carrier aggregation. According to Bill Stone, the VP of Technology Planning & Development in Verizon, the company is in the process of building a foundation for its exceptional evolution to the 5G. The company went further to elaborate that when it first launched its LTE network, it knew that there would be potential for innovation and an opportunity to expand its capacities. Over the years, the organization has continued to advance its 4G LTE network and laying the strong foundation for the evolution of its 5G.
Verizon with its partners, Qualcomm and Nokia, hit 1.4Gbps speed rate on one commercial LTE network through using six channel carrier aggregation and an unlicensed spectrum band in New York. It is important to note that carrier aggregation basically allows wireless operators to stick various transmissions together over different spectrum bands for speedy downloads. Verizon and some other network operators already employed different blends of the carrier aggregation technology.
According to Verizon, the New York achievement was as a result of how its combination of one of its licensed PCS spectrum carrier with another carrier of licensed AWS spectrum, as well as four different carriers of License Assisted Access spectrum. Suffice to say that T-Mobile and some other providers are also implementing the LAA technologies. In fact, T-Mobile mentioned that in partnership with Nokia, it has attained the download speeds of 1.3Gbps in February.
The announcement of the achievement of Verizon following its reach of 1.4Gbps is the latest step taken by the carrier to enhance the speed of its network. The company continues to include fibre backhaul and small cells in selected location in the country. Verizon is also in the process of implementing its 5G in a fixed set-up and subsequently on a mobile configuration.
Verizon announced that the demonstration utilized all network components that are available commercially, ranging from cell site, software, backhaul, to hardware. The company went further to state that it has been aggressively implementing new technologies for its network in a bit to improve its gigabit speeds.
Suffice to say that Verizon introduced 2-channel carrier aggregation across the nation during last summer. The company emphasized that it has also finished the implementation of 3-channel carrier aggregation with the use of its personal licensed spectrum. Furthermore, the carrier reiterates that various devices in the market can now support the gigabit speeds.
It is also noteworthy to mention that in January, Ericsson achieved 1Gbps 4G in partnership with Singtel through the use of 256 QAM, 4 X 4 MIMO, and other triple carrier aggregation.
