From 1999 to 2009, the late Arthur J. “Art” Samberg acted as the chairman, CEO, and managing director of Pequot Capital Management, Inc. Throughout the 2000s, Art Samberg donated millions of dollars to charitable causes and educational institutions, including the Columbia Business School, which created the Arthur J. Samberg Institute for Teaching Excellence to honor his support of the business school.

Created in 2002, the Arthur J. Samberg Institute for Teaching Excellence works to provide teachers with a suite of skills to improve their effectiveness in the classroom. A leadership team of six staff members coordinates the institute’s priorities with members from the business school and beyond. Alongside subject matter experts, the institute hosts workshops to impart various teaching approaches, coach individuals, and receive feedback on skills teachers want to hone.

In addition to its in-person resources, the institute maintains a resources page, where qualifying teachers can receive assistance on demand. Its materials explain aspects including curriculum planning, promoting inclusivity in the classroom, and creating more effective written documents.
