“My work is similar to making recipes. When I share ‘the recipe’ with the audience, they finish dishes in a way of understanding their own. An opening possibility, which can be anything, is a key to my artwork.”

Artist Seo, Hyo-Jung always calls herself a producer and observer. It means that she observes the audience fill up the open world made by Seo’s artistic imagination. Seo believes that the audience’s experience and interaction are before the artist’s message or intention, so she casts away the abstruse art in the audience’s grasp. It has been 18 years since the reveal of her first artwork, and Why the name ‘artist’ is still unfamiliar to her is derived from her unique artistic point of view that she prefers to collaborate with the audience during her whole career. Her artworks are always wrapped up in the audience between the action and reaction.

| Her pivotal power of her makes her science kids into media artists.
HYo-Jung’s life has been quite busy. Her life biography shows her various challenges melted in her humous self-talk. She studied chemistries, which she liked during school time, and she suddenly fell in love with fashion after graduation, which she made her study design. Seo recalled, “I prefer to apply the things that I learned to various areas than to penetrate one thing l learned. Unique expandability makes me feel the design field seductive.”

In 1995, when she started the design, it was the moment the household internet was actively spread. Webpages have been fancy and reacted to the mouse pointer. During this time, a keyword, ‘interaction,’ has been a keyword of her life.

“The web page of that moment has changed very dynamically. What interested me was the interaction followed by the drag of the mouse pointer. I clicked into the feeling of touching the data on the monitor and entered graduate school to study digital media. That experience became a basement of my style, focusing on the audience’s interaction.”

| Consumer obsession and kindness of the artwork of the design major
Her unique career remains in her style. She values the media after learning chemistries and considers a user’s experience after learning design. She becomes media by herself, provoking the chemistry of the artworks and the audience and delivering a whole new experience, twisting the UX of the existing object.

“Though in design, it is essential to make the user follow the designer’s original intention or purpose, the art is different. It has an open end. The formation of the artwork can lead the audience’s action to some extent, and the reaction is up to them, which can be why my artwork begins when the audience meets it.”

Her portfolio is a list of the collaboration of the audience. These are her representative artworks: ‘The snow white on the table’(2006), the audience can make an end of the story. ‘Transformation 201’(2007), the performance with the musicians and the dancers to guide the audience’s participation, ‘A museum of the object’s memory’ (2012), made in the abandoned department store’s basement by the workshop with the local of Kitakyushu.

| From the audience to the algorithm, the change in the collaboration
It is the <Art in metaverse> exhibition where you can observe the change of the Seo, Hyo-Jung. Her artworks in the exhibition result from her interaction and a lonely experiment for the past two years.

She emphasizes there are still many things you can learn in the exhibition. Her observation and the recording of the audience’s reaction is an effort to be a more powerful art medium. She said that this goal perfectly matches with the ARTSCLOUD.

“There have been many exhibitions that the goal of a collection is itself. The ARTSCLOUD seems to regard the exhibition as the beginning of the events that will happen when the excellent artists, artworks, and the audience are together. For me, they want to medium, sparkling the world’s chemistry. So, I felt them very close and friendly. I participated in <Art in Metaverse>, chasing funny and exciting works. I wouldn’t have been here if My goal was to make artwork. I have got my artworks as a result, passing many courses. I will pursue this attitude. My plan is to become a bridge that links the audience and art, and an educator who inspires my students. Art supposes to derive the people be together!”
