The Princess in the Pillowcase

I love my bed.

I love it when the sheets are cool

and the quilt is warm

and I push my feet in their second skin

down where it’s tight,

where mommy tucked the blankets in.

I love the princess in my pillowcase

who strokes my head and whispers

before I go to sleep,

you are such a lovely boy

and the world’s a lovely place;

tomorrow you can play and play

and the sky will touch your face.

I’ll always be your princess,

the one who guards and keeps

a place that’s safe for you to dream

so peaceful and so deep.
