I Tried 50 Best AI Headshot Generators | These Are The Best

73 min readJun 25, 2025

--

I spent $2,700 on AI headshots to figure out which one is truly the best.

In this post, I will show you my results and reveal the winner.

I’ve tested free headshots, paid tools, selfie generators, LinkedIn photo generators, team headshot AI tools, and more.

Let’s start!

Top 3 Picks

Here’s a short summary of the top 3 AI headshot generators right now:

👉 1. BetterPic

👉 2. HeadshotsByAI

👉 3. Secta AI

Disclaimer: This article is reader-supported. If you choose to pay for the tools listed in this article, I might earn a small commission at no cost to you.

Let’s move on to the results and more tools!

My Results: Short Overview

Before I dive deeper into the reviews and results, here’s a quick before-and-after-style comparison of the AI headshot generators.

I’ve included 19 tools on the list.

In this section, I’ll show you my favorite headshot from each tool in this list.

1. BetterPic

BetterPic is my favorite AI headshot generator. It not only creates epic images that look exactly like you, but it also lets you do edits. Also, they have professional human editors who will give your photos the final touch.

2. HeadshotsByAI

HeadshotsByAI is another one of my favorite AI headshot generators. The results are well-lit, sharp, and realistic. The only miss is that you can’t edit the images.

3. Secta AI

Secta AI is a wonderful AI headshot generator that lets you create both professional and casual images of yourself with AI. This tool also has one of the best editing capabilities out there. Also, the Northern Lights style headshots are just awesome!

4. HeadshotPro

HeadshotPro is a good, customizable AI headshot generator. This tool is the only one on the list that creates public speech headshots, too. Similar to the others, it’s easy to use, and the results look superb!

5. Try It On AI

TryItOn creates good-looking social media and professional headshots. This tool also has great customizations and edits. It even turns one of your headshots into a video if you want to.

6. Magic Photos AI

Magic Photos is one of the best AI dating profile picture generators. It creates a bunch of candid-style AI headshots from your selfies. This is one of the rare tools that let you edit your AI headshots as well.

7. InstaHeadshots

InstaHeadshots is the best AI social media profile picture generator. This tool doesn’t let you customize your images, but the results are surprisingly good. I mostly got selfies I could use on my social media profiles all day.

8. Headshot.Kiwi

HeadShot Kiwi is not the most popular headshot generator, but it’s certainly a good one! You can create good-looking, realistic, and less uncanny photos than most headshot tools on the market.

9. Prophotos AI

ProPhotos is one of the best professional headshot generators. If you want to wear a suit and have sharp, realistic images that do not cost so much, this one is for you. ProPhotos is missing customization and editing features, though.

10. PhotoPacks AI

Photopacks is a cool, budget-friendly headshot generator. This is the most affordable tool that uses technology that actually produces good results. You can’t do edits, but you get a lot of good headshots.

11. AI SuitUp

Another affordable entry on the list is AI SuitUp. This tool creates very similar headshots to the best tools on the list, but at a lower cost. This one doesn’t allow for edits either.

12. GoStudio AI

GoStudio AI is a cheap AI headshot generator that you can use to get results for less than $20. Although this tool doesn’t let you edit your photos or pick a bunch of styles, the headshot results are still pretty amazing and realistic.

13. The Multiverse AI

The Multiverse AI is one of the first AI headshot generators out there. But it’s not just the oldest, but allows for nice customization. Just describe the tool and what you want to do in the image, and it will get the job done. However, you can’t edit your images.

14. Aragon AI

Aragon AI is one of the “OGs” in the AI headshot game. This tool was founded in 2022. The tool lets you create realistic AI headshots for professional use. The tool also has good editing and customization features.

15. Portrait Pal

If you want vintage-style profile pictures, I recommend trying PortraitPal. Perhaps not the best results, but the headshots have a soothing vibe to them.

16. Fiverr AI Headshots

Fiverr is a freelancer marketplace, and no surprise, you can find AI headshot gigs there too. This is not a tool, but rather a professional photo editor that uses its own AI headshot technology to create your photoshoots.

17. ChatGPT

ChatGPT changed the image generation technology early in 2025, and now you can create AI headshots with it. Just drop an image of yourself into the chat and tell it to turn that into a professional headshot.

18. Profilebakery

ProfileBakery is not the best, but also not the worst AI headshot generators out there. It gives you somewhat artificial, 3D-like AI headshots for professional use.

19. HeadshotMaster.io (Free)

Then we have those free AI headshot generators. Here, the quality drops drastically, since they use the much cheaper free technology to create images. HeadshotMaster.io is the best free tool I’ve tested.

20. AIEase (Free)

AIEase is perhaps the quickest headshot generator on the list. It doesn’t ask you to pay. Heck, you don’t even need to sign up. But since it’s free, the results aren’t the best.

21. HeadshotPro (Free)

Then we have AI headshot makers that use the AI background-swap technology. These tools don’t recreate your face but just change the background. HeadshotPro has a free background switcher with lots of backgrounds to choose from.

22. PFPMaker

PFPMaker is another AI headshot maker that just changes your background. There are lots of options to choose from, and you also get to run a lot of customizations on your photos.

23. Canva Headshot Generator

Then, last but not least, we have Canva.

It’s not the best headshot maker, but it's still worth mentioning since the tool has many useful features, and many of you might already be using it.

These headshots are good for prototyping and brainstorming if you don’t want to exit the app.

Also, the technology will get better there soon, and there are lots of AI headshot apps in Canva already that could give you even better results.

Pricing Table

Here’s a table that summarizes the pricing of these AI headshot generators:

But now, let’s jump into the detailed reviews.

This is the most detailed review of AI headshot generators on the internet. Hope you like it!

1. BetterPic

betterpic ai headshots page

BetterPic is my all-time favorite AI headshot generator.

It simply gave me the best results and gave most options for customization.

This AI tool offers epic customization, with the main feature being human editing. A real editor fine-tunes your photos to ensure they truly look like you (available in the Expert plan).

Let me show you what I got from it.

👉 Try BetterPic

My Experience

Before I show and analyse my results, let me quickly show you how easy it is to use BetterPic.

First, sign up here and read these instructions. I bought the Expert plan to be able to use the human edits.

instructions

Add your name, ethnicity, use cases, gender, and eye color.

order details page

Choose a couple of styles for your AI headshots.

ai headshot styles

Choose all three to get the most accurate results and versatility.

more styles

Read the image instructions.

This is the most important part of the process, since in this step, you let the AI know what you look like.

It’s essentially training the AI headshot generator to understand what you look like so that it can then place you on those different environments and such.

I recommend using images from different lighting, clothing, and poses to let the AI know what you look like.

guide to uploading

Here are my real selfies that I used to train the AI:

my real images

As you can tell, those are just some regular images of me from my camera roll that I’ve taken throughout the years.

After I selected the images, the tool graded them and took away those with too low a resolution. To be honest, this step is the “hardest” one because it can take a while to find a bunch of images that are good enough for the AI headshot generator.

Nonetheless, once I had selected my images, it was time to create my AI headshots.

your headshots

It took about 20–30 minutes to create 100 images of me.

Here are some of the results I got from it:

my results ai headshots

That always makes me smile, even though I’ve seen my AI headshots a bunch of times now.

These are so good. Just so accurate, realistic, and sharp.

I’m using one of the above images on my LinkedIn too.

linkedin headshots

Here are some more results that I got from BetterPic:

I won’t say every image is perfect.

As BetterPic mentions on the results page, most images look great, some are just okay, and a few miss the mark.

For example, in this one, there are subtle artifacts on my face and teeth. They’re minor but noticeable.

malformed ai headshot

The cool part of BetterPic is that you can fix those AI artifacts pretty easily and accurately.

Just click on the BP AI Edit button.

ai edits

You can request a manual edit from the BetterPic team to make the image look exactly like you.

human edits requestt

That’s handy, especially for a team looking for uniform images across the board.

For example, look at this AI headshot that I got from BetterPic:

It looks nice, but I’d like to change my clothes… Well, that’s not an issue when using BetterPic because of the customization features.

To change the clothes of one of your AI headshots, all you need to do is choose an image and click “BP AI Edit”.

Then you can choose the “Clothing” option from the AI edits.

For example, I picked a Christmas outfit:

Then, after about 5–10 minutes of waiting, I got 4 images of that original AI headshot where I have Christmas-style clothing.

Here are the results:

Isn’t that cool? It’s the same photo as before, but now it is in Christmas style.

This was so cool that I wanted to play with it a bit more. So I asked the AI to add a dark suit and also to dress me as a doctor.

Here’s what I got:

What an amazing piece of AI this is.

Also, the other customizations are pretty cool.

For example, you can expand your AI headshots.

This AI headshot looks otherwise good, but the issue is that it’s a bit too close to my liking.

To fix this, all I had to do was use the AI expand feature from the AI edits.

By doing this, the AI headshot generator added some more space to the top of the image.

Isn’t that cool?

To be honest, this is the best AI headshot tool on the market. I like the fact that it’s so versatile and also lets you customize your images.

Also, you can get headshots for your team, as well.

If you click the top left corner, you’ll find your account, but below that, there’s the Team option.

The team feature is epic. There’s one Admin view where you can invite your team members to create headshots.

You can choose a common style or let them choose the headshot style. After your team has created the headshots, all the results appear in the Admin view for you.

This is handy so you don’t need to ask for the headshots separately from everyone.

You can find a guide on how to use the BetterPic AI headshot team feature here.

Overall, I love BetterPic.

I think the biggest problem with a lot of these headshot generators is that the results are 6/10 or 7/10, but you can’t do any edits or fixes to those. But on BetterPic, this is not a problem because you can fix most problems with the AI features or the Human Edits feature.

👉 Try BetterPic

Pros

  • Faster than most tools (25 minutes vs. 1–2 hours).
  • Highly realistic images with just 8 input photos.
  • Smooth, user-friendly interface.
  • AI editing options (background removal, eye color, attire changes).

Cons

  • Not instant — 25 minutes might feel slow to some.
  • Occasional flaws (odd eyes, imperfect teeth), like other AI tools.

Pricing

To Take Home

I love BetterPic. The results are realistic, and they’re also faster than other AI headshot generators.

It also gives options to customize and edit images, even with a human editor from their team.

This is the best. This is the standard upon which I will judge other tools on this list.

Just remember that your characteristics can swing the results. Even with the best AI headshot generators, I’ve heard people having trouble. For example, one guy told that his hair was long but the AI headshot generator forced it to be short, which is not nice.

2. HeadshotsByAI

headshotsbyai homepage

Next, it’s let me introduce HeadshotsByAI. This is another AI headshot generator tool that takes your camera roll images and turns them into professional photos.

These results are very sharp and crisp, and up there with BetterPic quality. In fact, I might even put this tool on top of the list, but the problem is that this one doesn’t let you edit your AI headshots. You can just view and download.

Let me show you what I got.

My Experience

Once again, let me first show you how to use this product if you want to try it. Then, I’ll talk about my results.

First, HeadshotsByAI homepage and sign up.

I love the lighting and attire in these shots.

The quality and lighting are better than any other tool I’ve tested.

However, in some images, my forehead looks too tall — but that’s probably just me noticing after years of looking in the mirror.

There are also a few artifacts, like messed-up teeth and overly smooth skin:

more results with some malformations

But those flaws are subtle — you probably wouldn’t even notice them.

Pros:

  • Faster than most tools (25 minutes vs. 1–2 hours).
  • Highly realistic images with just 8 input photos.
  • Smooth, user-friendly interface.
  • AI editing options (background removal, eye color, attire changes).

Cons:

  • Not instant — 25 minutes might feel slow to some.
  • Occasional flaws (odd eyes, imperfect teeth), like other AI tools.

To Take Home

Definitely up there with the best headshots. I couldn’t recommend it more.

I think the only miss is that you can’t customize the images, which is something you almost have to have with these AI headshots. In that sense, a tool like HeadshotsByAI can feel a bit overpriced since the best tools can get you similar results with the editing features on top of it.

One thing where HeadshotsByAI shines is the image lighting. I think that these images are best lit out of the AI headshot generators that I tested. Also, the images are very sharp to my liking.

The main issue is that you can’t edit the images that the AI clearly missed. In some pictures, the stare is a bit blank, the lips and teeth might be messed up, and such.

But still worth trying!

👉 Try HeadshotsbyAI

3. Secta AI

Secta AI is an awesome AI headshot generator that lets you turn your selfies into AI headshots in multiple styles.

These styles vary from selfies to formal headshots.

Also, as a Finnish dude myself, I can’t help but mention the Aurora Borealis style headshots. I loved those.

But without wasting more time hyping it up, let me show you my experiences with the product and how to use it.

My Experience

Let me first show you how to create your headshots using Secta AI.

First, visit their homepage.

It immediately prompts you to pick a plan. This tool makes it easy since there’s just one paid plan for $49. (However, there’s a hidden cost that is the edits that cost $5-$20/month if you want to use those. More about that later.

Once you’ve bought a package, set your preferences, such as the gender, ethnicity, and hair color.

Then pick your AI headshot styles.

You can choose the types of headshots you want to create from the list based on what you like in the previews. It lets you pick up to 20 styles for your headshots.

Then it’s time for the hardest part, that is, the tool asks you to upload a bunch of images of yourself.

In fact, here you need to upload at least 20 photos of yourself, which is more than any other tool asks. It can take a significant amount of time to find that many images.

One thing I liked here was that this tool accepted HEIC images that I have on my Mac for some reason. If you have those, there’s no need to use a converter with those. Just drop them into the view.

Then, once you have added your images to the view, move to the next view. Here, it asks you to choose your favorite photo:

Once you hit “Submit”, it starts creating your AI headshots. This process takes a while. For me, it took about 3 hours from submitting to receiving my headshots.

But you don’t need to wait. Just check your email, and once you see an email like this, your headshots are ready:

Isn’t that handy?

Now, let me show you my results.

Here’s the first set:

There are over 20 images in each section. I think that means I got over 140 AI headshots.

Here are more AI headshots from Secta.

Let me give you a closer look at some of my favorites:

I mean, aren’t those amazing?

Especially, the aurora borealis image not only looks like me but also looks like it’s from my country.

Those are just awesome!

Then this tool also lets you do edits to your headshots.

However, the edits are not free. Instead, you need to subscribe to a monthly paid plan. This is inconvenient and first for me.

All the other headshot generators offer those edits on house or for credits. But this one wants you to pay up to $20/month.

For instance, here I’m editing one of the Northern Lights headshots to wear a red outdoor fit.

After about 5 minutes of waiting, I got these results back:

Those are just awesome! Let me zoom in a bit. Here are three really well-edited images with a red outfit on:

To make it easier for you to compare, this was the original AI-generated photo:

These are so good that I had to ask more.

This time I asked for a light blue polo shirt:

After a couple of minutes, here’s what I got back:

That’s so cool! Here’s a zoomed-in version of one of the images:

The only problem is that these edits make the images slightly less realistic-looking. The edges of me look I’ve been copy-pasted to the image.

However, with those edits, you could change the background, clothing, regenerate specific images, and more.

That’s cool, isn’t it?

Pros

  • Generates over 140 high-quality AI headshots
  • Cool variety of styles, including the Aurora Borealis look
  • Simple $49 pricing, no confusing tiers
  • Supports HEIC images (handy for Mac users)
  • Lets you pick preferences like gender, ethnicity, hair color
  • Email notification when headshots are ready

Cons

  • Some images come out bad or uncanny
  • Edits can’t fix the worst headshots
  • Edits cost extra ($5–$20/month), not included
  • Needs 20+ photos to start, which is a lot
  • Takes around 3 hours to generate results
  • No free trial or preview before paying
  • Forces you to pick a plan right away on the homepage

Pricing

There’s just one $49 one-time fee for personal headshots. For companies and communities, there are bigger plans.

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 4.6/5
  • Customizable: 4.7/5
  • Waiting time: 3.5/5
  • Total: 4.2/5

To Take Home

I love my Secta AI headshots. This tool gave me mostly good results.

In most AI headshot generators, only 5–10% of the headshots are truly good, and the rest aren’t that much.

But with Secta, I got about 20–25% of the images back as something I could use.

Also, the editing features are complete and comprehensive. The only drawback is that the edits cost a monthly recurring fee.

👉 Try Secta AI Headshots

4. HeadshotPro

HeadshotPro is an epic AI headshot generator that creates those public-speaking AI headshots.

My Experience

Let me show you how to use this tool first.

First, you need to sign up for the service.

Upload images of yourself.

Add your details.

Wait.

It can take longer during high-demand periods, but usually, creating the AI headshots takes about 1–2 hours.

The team will notify you via email once the headshots are ready.

Here’s a before-and-after image of an AI headshot that I got from HeadshotPro:

It’s not one image you get but a whole bunch more.

Here are some other really good-looking results that I got.

Realistic, sharp, and versatile. I like it.

Also, those public speech headshots are super cool. I don’t think any other software lets you do this right now.

However, the closer you look at the headshots, the more fake some appear. I’d say 80–90% of the results fall into this category.

You can edit the headshots, though.

For example, here I’ve told the AI to create a Cafe background to my AI headshots:

That’s pretty cool, and not many tools let you do this!

👉 Try HeadshotPro

Pricing

  • Basic: $29
  • Professional: $39
  • Executive: $59

Pros

  • Super realistic result
  • High-quality results
  • Faster than a photographer
  • Good customization features

Cons

  • Edits create new images — do not edit the existing ones
  • It can be pricey for some
  • Some images are “artificial” and not too realistic

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 4.5/5
  • Customizable: 3.5/5
  • Waiting time: 3.9/5
  • Total: 4.2/5

My Take

I like HeadshotPro.

It’s one of the best tools, in my opinion.

The only downside is that the results are a bit artificial-looking, and I look tired in a lot of them.

Also, it lacks the human edits that BetterPic offers.

However, the cool thing about this AI headshot generator is that it lets you create those public speech images. Those look superb, and I don’t think there’s any other tool that lets you create those (except for ChatGPT).

I’d give it a shot. I think these pictures are insanely good for social media profiles.

5. Try It On AI

Try It On AI is one of the best AI headshot tools out there. It creates realistic images. It’s the fastest paid headshot tool on the list.

Also, this tool lets you create customizations and edits, and even has a professional human editor to give your images the final touch.

The only downside is that you have to pay quite a bit to get the best results.

Let me show you what kinds of images I got with it.

My Experience
To use Try It On AI, first, head over to this page.

I suggest the Professional plan because there, you’ll get 100 headshots.

Read the instructions next.

Add your details and characteristics and upload your selfies.

The upload sometimes fails if the images are too small. If that happens, just choose a different image.

Then pick your photoshoot styles. There are lots of AI headshot styles you can choose from.

Then specify your characteristics.

Once the selfie validation is complete, hit “send.”

Once the AI has made your images, you’ll get an email that notifies you about the AI-generated photos.

For me, this only took 10 minutes or so. This was crazy fast, but are the results good?

Here are the results I got:

What I like about Try It On AI headshots is the variability in image size. As you can see, almost all the other tools on the list force the images to be one size. But here we have images with all aspect ratios.

Also, these look like me, for sure.

Don’t forget that you can also edit your photos with AI. Just click one of your images to make it bigger, and choose one of the editing options in the top left corner of the view:

For example, you can change your background, remove stuff, re-create images, and more. Heck, you can even make a video of yourself.

Be sure to save the email/catalog link, as you can’t sign in to Try It On AI. This is the only way to access your images later.

Pros:

Cheaper than other AI headshot generators.

  • Easy to use — just upload selfies and wait about an hour.
  • Realistic results that look exactly like you.
  • Editing and customization options are nice!
  • Variety and versatility in the results and AI headshot sizes, too.
  • Little to no artifacts in most images.

Cons:

  • Some images could fail or not resemble you.
  • A few images have a 3D-rendered look.
  • The customizations are there, but they’re not the best. If you don’t know how to use those, it will also fail badly and just waste credits.

Pricing

That’s epic! But what about the pricing of this service?

  • 20 Headshots: $35
  • 50 Headshots: $49
  • 100 Headshots: $61

If you want to have humans edit your photos, you’ll need to pay $9 per edited photo. It’s not bad!

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 4.1/5
  • Customizable: 4/5
  • Waiting time: 4/5
  • Total: 4.2/5

To Take Home

Try It On AI is also really good.

The results are some of the best I’ve ever seen. Also, the tool is super fast, and the customizations are there.

Just remember that your mileage may vary. For me, this is still not quite the best tool because BetterPic is just so far ahead of the game compared to the rest of the tools.

The only big problem with this tool was the user experience.

To be honest, it was terrible. I felt stupid while using the app. There were no alerts, no warnings, but I still couldn’t continue creating my headshots. Before I saw the results, it felt like a waste of time and money. But after the struggle and after I saw the results, I thought it was worth adding to this list.

👉 Try Try It On AI

6. Magic Photos AI

Magic Photos AI is easily one of the best AI tools I’ve tried for generating social media profile pictures or dating profile pictures.

It’s less of a professional headshot generator but rather a candid photo generator.

It’s not explicitly marketed that way, but that’s the category where it shines.

The lighting is solid, the quality is clean, and most of the results looked like natural selfies I’d post on something like Instagram.

Let me show you what I got from Magic Photos AI.

My Results

First, let me quickly show you how easy it is to use this tool.

Start by heading to their site. From there, sign up and start a new photoshoot.

Give your photoshoot a name (your name) and specify your gender.

Then, it’s time to let the AI know what you look like. To do this best, read the instructions carefully.

Then upload your photos by dropping them into the view. The tool will run a quick quality check on those. If you add too low-res photos, the AI won’t accept those because then it can’t see you well enough, and you could get distorted results.

Then pick a plan:

I chose the $69 plan, since it gives me 200 headshots, 10 styles, and the fastest turnaround.

Speaking of styles, it’s time to choose styles for your AI photoshoots. In Magic Photos, there are lots of styles to choose from!

Once you’ve selected the styles, double-check everything in the final view before generating.

Then just start the process.

This takes about 15 minutes on the most expensive plan. In the cheapest option, you’ll need to wait for 90 minutes.

Once the processing is done, click into your profile to see your AI-generated images. (You’ll also receive an email that notifies you about the headshots.)

Here are my AI photos:

Aren’t those awesome?

One thing that tripped me up for a second: when you preview the images, they have watermarks — even if you’re on a paid plan.

But don’t worry, those disappear when you download the files.

The watermarks are in place to prevent people from generating headshots, saving them, and then attempting to cancel and refund the plan. Basically, it’s a theft deterrent.

Nonetheless, let me drop some of my favorites here for a closer look:

All these look realistic, and pretty much exactly like me.

Also, thanks to the number of styles and photos in total, I think there’s at least 1–2 usable images for each 10 styles I tried. That’s good, because there are lots of AI headshot generators where you get 0–5 good results in total. This tool gave at least 20 usable ones.

Notice that this tool also lets you edit your photos.

Just pick an image, and click “Edit”.

Then choose what you want to do.

For example, in the above image, I wanted to change my ridiculous-looking green tight shirt to something more subtle.

After about 2 minutes of waiting, here’s the result I got:

That’s a lot better! As you can see, it’s otherwise the same headshot, but now I have a better fit.

Before edits vs. After edits

Pros

  • Turnaround was just around 15 minutes. This makes it one of the fastest tools I’ve tested thus far.
  • Most of the headshots looked impressively realistic. Some had minor quirks, but nothing major. I think that in every style, I got at least 1–2 usable images, which in my plan means I have 20 epic headshots!
  • Even the highest-tier plan is under $69 — still way cheaper (and easier) than hiring someone.

Cons

  • Some photos are just bad and uncanny. There’s no way around it.
  • The editing options are limited to what other tools (such as BetterPic) offer. However, I can’t hate it too much because this one is one of the only tools that allow for edits in the first place.

Pricing

  • Starter: $49
  • Basic: $59
  • Premium: $69

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 4.0/5
  • Customizable: 2/5
  • Waiting time: 4.5/5

Magic Photos AI is a solid choice for creating profile pictures, dating profile images, and more.

Some of the images look overly smooth or too polished to pass as real, which kind of gives away the AI factor.

But then again, a few came out so good, I had to do a double-take.

The biggest problem is that there aren’t a lot of edits you can do. If one of your photos fails, you can change the outfit, regenerate the image, and improve the resolution.

But, for example, a human edit or try-on-clothes feature is missing.

Still, if you’re after Instagram selfies or profile pictures in general, give Magic Photos AI a try. Some of the outputs are surprisingly spot-on.

7. InstaHeadshots

InstaHeadshots is the best AI social media profile picture generator.

It’s not necessarily branded as such, but I found it to be the best category for it. The results look good, the lighting is great, and the images are mostly selfies I could share on social media sites like Instagram.

Let me show you the results I got from InstaHeadshots.

My Results

Let me first show you how ot use InstaHeadshots. Then, I’ll also show you my results with the tool.

First, head over to this page.

Then sign up for the service. You can use Google to save you some clicks and having to recall yet another password.

Then, create a new profile.

Pick the best plan.

Read the instructions.

Upload your images, answer a couple of questions, and wait.

For me, it took about an hour to see the results.

Once the AI is ready, click on your profile to view your images.

Click on a page that looks like this again:

Here are your results!

You can’t edit your photos with InstaHeadshots. But most of the images are so good that there’s really no need to.

My results are mostly selfies, and I think that’s because I used a lot of selfies in the input images. But whatever the reason, the selfies are really great, so I could use them on my socials.

Here are some images:

Here are some more:

Those look pretty accurate, don’t they?

One thing I was worried about for a second was that once you open up those images, you see watermarks — even on a paid plan.

But those go away once you download your images.

The watermarks are there so that you don’t create your headshots, download them, and then cancel the plan for a refund. They don’t want you to steal the photos from them, is basically what I’m trying to say here.

Pros

  • I had to wait about an hour, which isn’t bad at all — especially compared to the days or even weeks it can take with a real photographer.
  • The headshots look pretty realistic. There are some small artifacts, sure, but nothing that ruins the vibe.
  • Even the top-tier plan is under $100, and that’s still way cheaper (and easier) than hiring an actual photographer.
  • There’s a free option available. It takes longer, but if you’re not in a rush, it might be the way to go.

Cons

  • Most of the images came out a bit too blurry, and the expression is just kind of… blank. Looks okay at first glance, but the more you look, the more artificial it feels.
  • While it’s more affordable than hiring someone, it’s still a little pricey, especially when you consider that a lot of AI tools offer free trials.
  • If you want to make small edits to your headshots, you’ll need to use a different tool. InstaHeadshots doesn’t let you do in-app AI edits like some of the other options

Pricing

  • Starter: $49
  • Basic: $59
  • Premium: $69

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 4.0/5
  • Customizable: 0/5
  • Waiting time: 4.0/5
  • Total: 4.0/5

To take home

InstaHeadshots is great for social media profile pictures and AI headshots.

Some of the selfies look a bit too artificial and smooth to be real.

So that gives it away. But some of the photos just look awesome and realistic.

There’s a free version, but it has a long queue.

The issue with this one is also that there are no editing options for you. This is annoying since some images are good, but they’re just off. I’d like to regenerate those images, but that’s not possible.

Anyways, if you want Instagram pictures made with AI (or selfies in general), make sure to try InstaHeadshots. Some of the results are shockingly good and accurate. The only reason it’s lower on the list today is because the results are so inconsistent. Out of the 100 images I got, I’d only say 5–10 are usable.

8. Headshot.Kiwi

Headshot.Kiwi is one of the top AI headshot tools out there. The tool is fast, gives realistic results, and is somewhat easy to use.

It’s not higher on the list because it doesn’t let you tweak or customize the AI-generated photos

Let me share my results.

My Experience

To try Headshot.Kiwi, head over to their page.

I recommend picking the most expensive plan because you get 100 headshots with that one.

As I always say, there’s a great chance that one of your AI headshots is just going to look bad. But once there are tens or even hundreds, you’ll find good ones too!

Just follow the instructions on the site, and make sure to read the image instructions especially carefully.

This lets you get the best outputs.

Once you’re ready with the rules, upload a bunch of images of yourself to the AI headshot generator:

Just use regular selfies or images from your camera roll. These don’t need to be professional since that’s the whole point—we’re creating professional headshots from basic images.

One thing I must mention is that this tool has a terrible UX. Just absolutely terrible.

Here’s what happened when I tried to upload my images:

Also, it was very hard to start creating the images because there were “errors” in my inputs. However, the tool didn’t mention a word about those.

Nonetheless, once your images are uploaded, and once the validation finishes, hit “Start AI photoshoot.”

Then sit back for a bit. It takes less than an hour for the AI headshots to appear. This tool doesn’t notify you, so please, remember to come back after a while to see if your images are ready.

Here are my AI headshots:

Those look very nice, and some of them are good enough for me to use on my social media.

However, I must admit that this tool still gave me a bit of an over-the-weekend coding project vibe. The UX is so bad. The tool stalls and lags, and has no clear-cut workflow, unlike other similar tools.

But that being said, the results are still good, and even though you can’t edit them, it’s one of the top tools on the list.

Pros

  • The cheapest plan is a bit cheaper than most other AI headshot generators
  • Somewhat easy to use
  • The results look impressively realistic
  • Lots of variety and range in the photos
  • Most shots come out clean, with minimal glitches or weirdness

Cons

  • Some photos might miss the mark or look a little off
  • A few shots can have a 3D or overly rendered vibe
  • No editing tools — you get what the AI gives you
  • The images are all forced to be the same size

Pricing

  • Starter: $29
  • Professional: $39
  • Executive: $59

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 3.9/5
  • Customizable: 3/5
  • Waiting time: 5/5
  • Total: 3.9/5

Headshot.Kiwi truly delivers.

The headshots it generated are some of the best I’ve seen.

Still, the lack of customization and the wait time keep it a bit lower on this list.

Also, the user experience is terrible. If you feel like you've been stuck or robbed, I’ve been there too. I didn’t know what happened, but the tool crashed while I was uploading my images. Also, I didn’t get any warnings or alerts. I had to figure it out on my own. In that sense, this tool gave me a vibe that this has been put together over the weekend.

The results were good, though. So what’s not to like!

Just be patient while creating and waiting for your AI headshots.

  • Reworking feature to refine AI-generated images.
  • Faster than most AI headshot tools.

  • Some images didn’t resemble me as well as the best tools on this list.
  • A few had low resolution or a slight “robotic” feel, but most turned out great!

ProPhotos is an affordable AI headshot generator that takes your selfies to the next level with AI.

Out of the 100 results I got, I liked at least 10 of them.

The lack of customizations is a big miss, though.

But the results are good, especially considering the low price. Also, this tool has taken massive steps in the past year or so.

The last time I tried this, the images looked artificial and terrible.

But today, it’s one of the top 10 AI headshot tools out there, which is a significant milestone.

10. PhotoPacks AI

As you can see, headshots typically cost quite a bit. However, I’m happy to tell you I’ve found a cheaper alternative that produces just as good results.

I’m talking about PhotoPacks AI.

This tool creates epic headshots for just $19.

My Experience

I’ll show you how easy it is to use PhotoPacks AI first.

First, you need to sign up for PhotoPacks AI.

Click on “Get Your Headshots”.

Then buy the AI photo pack:

Answer questions related to your characteristics. This way, the AI learns who you are and can better understand what kinds of headshots it should create.

Then you get to choose the main style for your AI headshots. I went with a business style.

Then, send your images to the AI.

Please check the instructions to get the best possible AI headshots back.

Here are my images:

Then, it’s time to wait.

This tool is a bit slower.

For me, it took about 4 hours to get my headshots, but they told me it can take up to 24 hours. You will receive an email once the headshots are ready.

Here are some AI headshots that I got from PhotoPacks AI:

They look exactly like me! They’re also versatile, well-lit, and mostly flawless.

Here are more AI headshots that I got:

Here’s my favorite business AI headshot that I got from PhotoPacks:

Speaking of least favorites, don’t be disappointed if you get a lot of unusable headshots.

For example, here’s one of my least favorite headshots:

I think most headshots turned out OK or even great. There are not as many misses as I would have expected from a cheaper tool. I think the results are up to par with other AI headshot generators.

Pros

  • Easy to use. Just sign up, answer a couple of questions, upload some images, and wait.
  • Realistic. The results look like you and are very realistic, in my experience.

Cons

  • No customizations. All you get is your images. You can’t edit those. If an image is a miss, it’s going to stay like that.
  • Waiting times. This tool takes up to 24 hours to render the AI headshots, which is a lot slower than most other tools.

Pricing

PhotoPacks headshots only cost $19.

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 4.2/5
  • Customizable: 0/5
  • Waiting time: 4.0/5
  • Total: 3.7/5

My Take

I’m a fan of my AI headshots — found a bunch that look like me out of the 100+ headshots that I got.

I think these work really well for resumes and professional network photos.

I wouldn’t use AI for big life moments like weddings, but for looking sharp online without the hassle of shoots, outfits, or awkward posing? Way easier.

Downside: It’s hit or miss, and you can’t tweak the results on PhotoPacks. But you get so many, you’re bound to end up with a few solid ones.

11. AI SuitUp

AI SuitUp is one of the best AI headshot tools that comes with a sub-$ $30 pricing plan.

The reason it’s not higher on the list is that it doesn’t let you customize your AI photos. However, usually, they’re still so good that you don’t need to.

Let me show you what kinds of images I got with it.

12. GoStudio AI

Professional headshots can be pricey, but I came across a more affordable option that still delivers surprisingly strong results.

This tool is called GoStudio AI.

It doesn’t let you edit your AI headshots, but it creates solid outputs that look mostly realistic and crisp.

Let me show you my results.

My Experience

Here’s how the process went for me — spoiler: it’s super straightforward.

To use it, sign up for the GoStudio AI website.

Click on “Get Your Headshots.”

Then pick your style and gender:

Then read the instructions.

As you can see, GoStudio gives you detailed instructions to ensure your images meet their quality standards. It’s worth following closely to achieve the best outcome.

Then it’s time to upload your selfies for the AI to know what you look like.

Here’s what I sent in:

At this point, I noticed that some of my images would fail to process. Also, this would completely freeze the UI, not letting me proceed to the next step. It was super annoying. I tried to get it working many, many times before I was able to pull it off.

Nonetheless, once you’ve uploaded your real headshots, pick a plan.

I recommend always doing the plan with most headshots since it gives you the best chance to get the best results. Most headshots end up being not that great, after all.

One thing I noticed while using GoStudio was the simplicity. Both in good and bad.

  • It’s good because you don’t need to worry about having 20+ images of yourself or answering all those personal details most tools ask for.
  • However, it is also significantly limited compared to the best AI headshot generators on the market.

But now, let’s move on to the results.

Here are the AI headshots I got from GoStudio:

When the results came in, I was pretty happy with them.

Here are more results:

The only problem is that these are way too generic and kind of one-dimensional compared to the best tools on the market.

They all look pretty much the same. The aspect ratio is the same. The suit is almost the same. There’s no variability. In one of the images I was sitting, and in some I was in a slightly different pose.

One cool thing I noticed was that this tool didn’t create those artificial-looking, fake AI headshots. These all look mostly like real photographs. So that’s something this tool seems to nail pretty well.

To be honest, there’s not too much to complain about. But this just feels basic and limited compared to the other tools I’ve tested.

Oh, and also, there are no edits or any customization options.

So you have to be fine with what you get, sadly. That’s also one thing that makes this tool not so great compared to the best tools on the list.

Pros

  • Very simple to use — just a few steps from signup to delivery.
  • Realistic output — in my case, they looked a lot like me.

Cons

  • No editing options — what you get is what you get. If one looks off, you can’t make tweaks.
  • Slower turnaround — it can take up to a couple of hours before you get your results.
  • UI/UX issues — It took a while for me to be able to upload my images to the tool.

Pricing

  • Standard ($24 one-time): 40+ headshots, 1-hour processing, 1 pack, 20 poses, great for resumes.
  • Premium ($19/month): 40 headshots, 30-min processing, 1 pack/month, 20+ poses, ideal for creators.
  • Pro ($49): Up to 150 images, 2-day delivery, custom brand look, perfect for personal branding.

👉 Try GoStudio

My Take

I ended up with a ton of usable shots — better than I expected, honestly. Also, the pricing of the smaller plans was affordable. One of the cheapest tools I tested.

They’re perfect for things like your resume, LinkedIn, or other online profiles.

I wouldn’t rely on these for big milestones like engagement photos, but if you want to look sharp online without hiring a photographer or planning a whole shoot, this gets the job done — no awkward posing or outfit planning needed.

It’s not perfect, and a few photos might miss the mark, but you get so many that at least a few are bound to work.

  • A variety of images in different settings.
  • Perfect for a CV or LinkedIn profile.
  • High resolution — no “robotic” or “AI” look.

Cons:

16. Fiverr AI Headshots

Fiverr is a platform you’ve probably heard of before. It’s the most popular and trusted freelancer website.

However, you may not have heard of the Fiverr AI headshot gigs before, have you?

This platform has photo editors who have their own AI headshot generator tools that they use to create photos of you. You can then ask for revisions and provide feedback to get better images for the same price on the same gig.

The only downside is that this is not fast. For me, my gig took like 6 hours, and if my memory serves me right, it’s by default 24 hours or more.

My Experience

Let me show you my results with Fiverr AI headshot makers.

Remember, this is not an AI headshot maker tool, but rather a person you can hire to use one.

I hired a person called Ghanou K, as he looked the most promising headshot maker.

To create headshots, choose one of the freelancers that have expertise in the topic. You can search for AI headshots on Fiverr to find them.

After you’ve had a chat with your freelancer of choice, they’ll send you a custom offer.

You can either accept or reject. For me, the headshots cost 23€, which is roughly $25.

After I accepted the gig, I sent my real images to the headshot creator:

Then the gig started.

The next day, I came back to check my results. Here’s what I saw:

Those look pretty epic, don’t they? However, once I zoomed in, the results were a bit blurry and not too realistic.

That’s not a problem.

I just asked my talent to create new ones and fix the old ones.

I told my needs:

And I waited for a couple of hours to get my new headshots:

These are so much better! Now I also have a bunch more to choose from. There are AI action figure headshots, winter style headshots, celebration, and fan headshots.

Love it!

Pros

  • Real humans work on your headshots.
  • Revisions for if you’re not happy with the results.
  • Good, realistic results that look more or less like you.

Cons

  • This is not an AI tool, but rather a real human working on the headshots. This can be a bit inconvenient for some.
  • The results are really good, at least for me, but not the best. Your mileage may vary, though.

Pricing

The pricing varies a lot across different creators on the platform. Some will do it for $10, some for $50. I’d check the headshot maker’s ratings and choose based on that.

I like Fiverr AI headshots. They’re good value for money. However, it’s slow, and you need to work with a real human, so it’s not necessarily an AI headshot generator.

Also, the results aren’t quite the best out of the bunch, I have to admit. But still definitely worth the shot. Especially if you want customizations and a professional touch!

17. ChatGPT

Then we have ChatGPT. Since March 2025, it’s been possible to upload images of yourself to the chat that ChatGPT can modify.

This makes it a good AI headshot generator.

My Experience

ChatGPT is free, and you can create 3–5 headshots per day on the free plan.

In this sense, it’s the best free AI headshot generator on the market right now.

The tool doesn’t edit your images directly, but rather re-generates one that resembles you.

I’ve found this to be impressive when it comes to image quality and customizations. However, to me, the results don’t quite look like me.

Just drop your image into the view, tell ChatGPT to turn that into a professional headshot, dating profile image, or social media photo.

It only takes about a minute or two (or even less during less busy times of the day) for the AI to create your headshot.

Here’s one of my results:

I like it!

However, to me, this doesn’t quite look like me. And I’ve heard of this problem from others, too.

The headshots are sharp and customizable, but there’s just something off. Also, what makes it tricky is that I think others will tell you that the ChatGPT-generated ones are the best, but then you don’t like them at all.

I have that problem with the above headshot, just to name one.

The image is sharp, the lighting is good, the clothes look cool, but to me, I don’t look like myself at all. I’ve seen myself in the mirror so many times.

However, what’s cool about ChatGPT headshots is that you can customize those to whatever you want.

  • Either create a new image based on the existing messages and chats.
  • Or click on your headshot for direct edits.

These edits are just awesome. No AI headshot generator comes close to these. You can literally do anything here.

For example, I asked ChatGPT to place me rowing on the surface of Mars.

This could be a funny social media post (at least would have been if people didn’t flood the web with AI-generated stuff).

Just something to keep in mind: The AI doesn’t technically edit your photos.

It recreates everything while trying to keep it as realistic and untouched as possible. This is why if you ask it to do multiple versions in the same chat, the accuracy starts to wear off.

Pros

  • Free for a couple of headshots per day.
  • Easy to use — just tell the AI what you want to create and it will do the job.
  • Customizations are insane, only limited by your imagination.

Cons

  • The results look generic and similar. Once you’ve created 10–20 headshots, you’ll see the same boring patterns repeat. If you do so many, you’ll instantly spot if someone used ChatGPT to create their social media headshots.
  • Limited to a couple of images per day—if you’re not using ChatGPT for anything else but AI headshots, the cost might be a bit of an overkill.
  • Limited even on paid plans—the AI can only create 10–20 images with the monthly Pro plan. That’s quite heavily limited.

I think you should try ChatGPT for headshots. If you like the results, there’s no reason to buy an expensive headshot package.

However, if you’re not satisfied with the results, I recommend trying one of the dedicated tools on the list.

18. Profilebakery

profilebakery ai headshots page

The next tool on my list is called ProfileBakery.

Just as a warning, this one is one of the last paid tools on the list, and you can clearly see this from the image quality, which is significantly worse than most of the tools on the list.

But the good part is that this tool comes with a happiness guarantee.

Anyway, let’s see how it works.

My Experience

First, head over to their homepage and click on “Start now.”

The input image instructions are good and clear, though:

rules for using

Here are some of the images that I used. These are real images of me:

Drag and drop them into the view.

The tool also asks you to add one “baseline image.” This is the basic facial expression you’ll have in your output photos.

Make sure to choose one where you smile if you want to have images with a lot of smiles as the output.

choosing a base image

Once you’ve chosen your images, you need to wait. For me, it took about an hour. But for some, it might take 3–4 hours.

thank you for creating page

You don’t have to wait, though. You can just close your window, and the email system will notify you once the images are ready.

email

Once the email arrives, you will find your AI images in a shared Google Drive folder.

my ai headshots

For some reason, it feels strange that the images are in a shared drive folder… Those other AI tools have ow private built-in libraries. But whatever. Let’s look at the image quality.

Here are my favorite images:

The results are decent. The more I look at them, the more I get a 3D character vibe.

Feel free to check back with the original images and decide for yourself! :)

Pros:

  • Realistic, professional-looking output images.
  • Lots of variations in clothes, poses, and backgrounds.
  • Built-in image improver features for fixing minor AI issues.

Cons:

  • Fewer images compared to other tools.
  • The UI feels a bit like a weekend project, but the results are surprisingly good!
  • Takes longer than other headshot tools.

19. HeadshotMaster.io (Free)

Best free AI headshot generator

headshotmaster ai homepage

HeadshotMaster.io is a free AI headshot generator that turns selfies into professional photos.

It offers a variety of styles for resumes, LinkedIn, and more, with no sign-up required and a focus on privacy.

This tool is similar to the paid headshot generators on this list since it creates new images that look like you. The main difference (aside from being free) is that it only needs one image of you and returns just 4 AI-generated faces.

My Experience

First, you need to answer simple questions, such as gender, age, hair color, eye color, ethnicity, etc.

choose gender

Upload an image. You can do up to 4 images.

upload images

Wait for a couple of minutes.

After that, you will see a bunch of AI-generated face headshots of yourself.

Here are my results:

my ai headshots

You can open up more results on the left-hand side.

For example, here are some more headshots of me:

That’s cool, considering it’s free. But let’s be real: It’s not exactly like me. It looks like a 3D-rendered character the closer you look at it.

Pros:

  • Fast: Results in just a couple of minutes.
  • One image: You only need to submit a single image, which is much easier than AI headshot generators that require 10–20 photos.
  • Semi-realistic: The AI produced images that resemble me.

Cons:

  • 3D vibe: The images look more like 3D renders than real photos.
  • Out of place: Some images look completely off, robotic, and not like me.

Let me show you another cool free AI headshot generator called AiEase.

To create your headshots, you just need to choose a style:

Upload an image of yourself:

After about 20 seconds, here’s your result:

That’s cool, huh? Although I must say this doesn’t quite look like me. It’s 5/10 compared to the paid tools on this list, if I’m honest.

Pros

  • Free: The tool costs nothing.
  • Fast: It’s just 30 seconds.

Cons

  • Unrealistic: The results aren’t even close to what I look like in real life.
  • Inaccurate: Because it only takes one input image, the output isn’t good.

21. HeadshotPro (Free)

Best background-changer AI headshot maker

headshotpro ai headshots

Next up is HeadshotPro, a background-swapping tool that uses AI to detect edges and remove you from the image.

The concept is simple: Upload your photo, and this tool quickly turns it into multiple professional headshots with different backgrounds.

Like PFPMaker, I’ve mentioned in earlier articles, it doesn’t create a new face — it just enhances your existing photo with new backgrounds.

My Results

Here’s my favorite before-and-after shot it created:

before after

The lighting looks accurate and realistic.

But honestly, it’s all luck — the AI didn’t adjust my face lighting; it just matched with a great background from the catalog.

More Results

You can get more similar results by choosing the background from this view:

different backgrounds

Noteworthy

This isn’t exactly a headshot generator since it doesn’t create your face. Instead, it uses AI to remove the background and replace it with a new one.

With a variety of pre-made backgrounds available, the process is quick, and you can easily try different options to find one that complements your image.

One downside is that the backgrounds are pre-built, meaning the AI doesn’t generate new ones each time you hit “generate.” Essentially, it’s more of a background remover and changer than anything else.

Pricing

Free!

I’ve not graded these background generators since it’s technically not an AI headshot generator.

22. PFPMaker

Best HeadshotPro alternative

pfpmaker homepage

PFPMaker is an AI tool that helps you create professional profile pictures by changing the background of your images.

It’s free and faster than other tools since it doesn’t create new images but simply removes the background and swaps it with a pre-built one.

Technically, it’s not a headshot generator. But with powerful AI tools for background removal, enhancement, and template customization, PFPMaker lets you improve existing images, perfect for something like a LinkedIn profile picture.

My Results

Here’s the before-and-after shot I got from PFPMaker:

23. Canva Headshot Generator

The worst headshot generator, despite the popularity

canva headshot generator

Canva also has an AI headshot generator.

But I have to spoil the party. The position on this list is well-deserved. This tool creates images that don’t look like me at all.

The only reason I have it on this list is that it ranks very high on Google for “AI headshot generator” keyword, and a lot of people are using that and getting a wrong picture of the state of the art in AI headshots.

google results

In reality, this is one of the worst ones I’ve tried.

Let me show you my results.

My Results

Canva’s headshot maker is easy to use. Just open Canva, go to Apps, and search for AI headshot generator.

Upload an image, choose your gende,r and wait:

After about 10 seconds, you will receive an AI-generated version of yourself.

Exciting! Let’s see what mine looks like…

Here it is:

terrible ai headshot

Umm… I hope I don’t look like that in real life. That is just terrible. It looks like one of those 2010 Instagram images where one has applied all the filters that were available at that time.

Terrible and a waste of my time.

This would have been cool 5 years ago, but now it’s just so out of date.

Canva is usually epic — don’t get me wrong.

In fact, some of the graphics on this post were made with Canva.

They just sometimes seem to release apps that are just meant to rank and capture traffic to convert to monthly users. If there’s no demand, they stop developing the tools, such as this headshot generator.

Best free + paid option

Last but not least, I will include one more free AI headshot generator.

This is not a real AI headshot generator but rather a background changer. Just keep that in mind. Nonetheless, it’s an epic AI headshot generator that I recommend checking out, too!

My Results

Here’s what I got from InstaHeadshots for free:

Those look epic, and I think the background looks natural in most. However, it didn’t create my images. It just changed the background. So this is not a real headshot generator, either.

Bonus 2: The Face-Swap Strategy

faceswap

Let me show you a clever trick with which you can also create headshots for free and have more customization over your work.

In short, this strategy involves ChatGPT and FaceSwapper.

The idea is here:

  1. Create an image of a person with AI.
  2. Take a selfie.
  3. Swap your face with the AI-generated image.
  4. Repeat until you find a good image.
  5. Enjoy!

For example, here’s an image I created with ChatGPT.

chatgpt generating images

This is a good base image. But it doesn’t look like me at all.

Next, I will merge the face from that image with my actual selfie.

To do this for free, you can use a tool like https://aifaceswap.io/.

Upload the AI-generated image as the “Original image” and use your selfie as the “Face image.”

faceswap

Wait for about 60 seconds.

And there’s your result:

results

That’s pretty cool! It looks a lot like me, at least. To improve the headshots, consider taking more selfies and testing those. Also, spend some time on the ChatGPT input.

Bonus 3: InsMind AI

InsMind is a new AI headshot generator tool that lets you create five free AI headshots as long as you sign up for the service.

However, this tool allows you to only download a low-res version of your images for free. Also, the results aren’t crazy good either. But for a free AI headshot generator, this is pretty good already.

Let me show you my results.

My Experience

I created a bunch of AI headshots with the InsMind AI headshot generator.

The tool is easy to use. Just sign up, drop your photo, and wait for 30 seconds.

Here’s the first result I got:

The next one is funny and happy, and kind of looks like me! Impressive for a free AI headshot generator, for sure.

This next one looks good at a distance. However, the quality is bad once you zoom in:

This one looks a bit like a painting:

Here’s my least favorite result:

In the above headshot, it kind of looks like me, but not really. The lighting and clothing are good, though.

But now, let me show you the problem. If you try to download your headshots for free, this is the quality you get:

It’s just not there. Not even close. Also, it has a watermark. In this sense, it’s not even a free headshot generator.

If the image quality were better, I’d say it’s the best free headshot maker. But because of the paywall and low resolution, it remains at the bottom of the list.

However, what surprised me is that there are a lot of editing options in this tool.

If you pick one of these, it will open up a studio like this:

In fact, this view looks a lot like Canva.

I think this is an online design platform or such where the headshot generator is just one part of the product.

I didn’t dig any deeper, though.

But still, an impressive semi-free piece of software you might want to try. If the headshots turn out good, it may be worth the price.

Pros

  • Easy to use, just sign up and drop your photo
  • Many styles to choose from
  • 5 images for free (without download, though)
  • Somewhat realistic and epic results
  • Good for a semi-free headshot generator

Cons

  • A paywall that restricts good-quality downloads
  • Inaccuracies and not the best results
  • Free but requires sign up (most free ones don’t)

Pricing

  • Yearly: $69.90
  • Monthly: $9.90

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 3.0/5
  • Customizable: 3.7/5
  • Waiting time: 4.8/5
  • Total: 2.1/5

I could give it a better score, but because I thought it would be free and I had to pay to download high-quality images, it’s not higher on the list.

Quick Summary Table

Here’s a table that summarizes all the AI headshot generators mentioned on this list:

Interesting Observation

Please, have a look at these three different AI headshot generators and their landing pages.

1: Fotor AI headshots:

2: HeadshotMaster AI headshots:

3. Supawork:

Looks eerily similar, don’t they?

I’m not going to comment on why I think this is the case, but I have a strong suspicion.

All I will say is make sure you don’t pay for something that you get for free on another site.

Just a thought. Just a funny observation.

Any Good Free AI Headshot Generators?

A lot of people search for free AI headshot generators on the internet. I get asked about those all the time, too.

The truth is, the best headshot models today require advanced technology and a lot of expensive computing power under the hood.

That’s why the headshots cost a lot. At least for now.

When you see tools that let you generate free headshots instantly, they almost always run on simpler models or older AI systems. That’s why the results often look a bit off — maybe the face shape is inconsistent, the lighting is unrealistic, or the image just feels low-quality. Basically, you get what you pay for.

Even ChatGPT (which is the closest thing to the best free AI headshot generator right now) has limits. You can create a couple of free images per day, and they do a decent job customizing photos, but it’s still nowhere near the level of premium services that charge a fee.

Those paid platforms use much larger AI models that need powerful GPUs to run, and that costs real money.

So while free tools are faster and fun to experiment with, they usually can’t match the quality you’d expect for professional headshots.

If you need something polished — like a LinkedIn photo or a business profile picture — investing in a paid AI headshot generator is usually worth it. Otherwise, be prepared for mixed results from the free options.

Before you go…

AI headshot generators are impressive, but it’s important to set realistic expectations — they don’t always get everything right.

These tools work by using AI trained on a huge set of photos to create headshots based on your uploaded images.

The process is quick and much cheaper, and less stressful than hiring a real photographer.

However, the results can sometimes feel a little unnatural (as you can see from the above images that I showed with different tools.)

You might notice an overly smooth complexion, a stiff expression, or facial features that don’t really look like you that much.

That’s where Betterpic stands out.

Unlike fully automated AI tools, Betterpic also offers AI edits and human edits.

That’s, in my opinion, the best AI headshot maker right now.

To cap it off, here are some tips on how to get the best headshot for you or your team.

Tips for Getting the Best AI-Generated Headshots

If you’re using an AI tool to create your headshot, here are a few simple steps to improve your results:

  1. Upload High-Quality Photos — AI works best with clear, high-resolution images. Blurry or pixelated photos can lead to distorted results.
  2. Use Well-Lit Images — Avoid harsh shadows or dim lighting, as AI might struggle to process details correctly.
  3. Choose a Neutral Expression — A relaxed, natural smile works best.
  4. Avoid Heavy Filters or Makeup — AI models analyze facial features, and too many enhancements in your original photos can confuse the system.
  5. Upload a Variety of Angles — Some tools allow multiple uploads, so giving it a mix of front-facing and slightly angled shots can lead to more accurate results.
  6. Check the Background — A simple, uncluttered background helps the AI focus on your face rather than unnecessary distractions.
  7. Be Ready to Make Adjustments — AI isn’t perfect. If something looks off, choose tools like Betterpic that offer human touch-ups for a final look. Perhaps choose a service that offers edits if this is something you want to be on the safe side with.

By doing this, you’ll get the best possible results.

Spread The Message!

Looking at the interest by region of AI headshots, those are blowing up mostly in the US and China, while a big part of Europe and other regions still haven’t caught on yet.

These tools are super useful, but it seems like a lot of people just haven’t heard of them.

So if you found this helpful, definitely share it around — let’s make sure it’s not just the US and China getting those polished LinkedIn pics, but everyone!

I at least love my headshots. Especially for business use, I think AI-generated pictures are not “cheating” but rather just a clever way of saving time and money.

The Problem with AI Headshots

Of course, I’m not suggesting that AI headshots are a shortcut to success in the job market or dating market.

But it’s a funny experiment and a time saver.

I personally wouldn't use AI headshots to fake any real-life events, such as weddings or parties.

But I think the best use is for business use, where it doesn’t matter what you look like in the first place.

I mean, why hire someone for thousands to take your photos and do all the makeup and clothes if you can get away with it for much, much less stress?

That’s why I love AI headshots. I have decent pictures of myself in the camera roll. But let’s be real. I will never have the time and patience to hire someone to take my headshots, especially now that you can get it done at a fraction of the cost in just minutes with AI.

But I can also see why some people absolutely hate it.

AI headshots are not real. They always add something there that doesn’t belong to you. In this sense, the images are “fake”.

Once again, I don’t think that it’s a problem in the business world. After all, if you do regular headshots, it’s just as fake because you never look like that anyway.

But the problem with AI headshots is that those can look a bit generic. I’m sure if everyone starts to create AI headshots, people can instantly tell that those are AI.

That, in turn, might lead to a trend where people will use just traditional selfies, which would devalue professional headshots.

Also, people might stop using profile pictures altogether since everything can be faked with AI so easily.

Who knows?

But one thing I know: AI headshots are epic. They’re a new thing, they’re a lot cheaper than traditional headshots, and not many people are using those yet.

I hope you liked this post and my results. Remember, your mileage may vary. That’s why I recommend trying a bunch of tools on the list. You’ll get a refund if you’re not happy with your results.

Thanks for reading!
