If you’re working 80 hours weeks for 40 years to become financially free – you’re doing something wrong and you need to sit down and rethink your strategy and possibly switch roads.
Aside from that, I do agree that having a life filled with busyness is oftentimes just being ignorant to your true self and being scared of self-reflection. Deep down you feel there’s something wrong but instead you decide to get your mind off it by being busy all the time.
That might be true in some cases, but there’s plenty of people who love working just because of the process, the high of having achieved something, helped someone, or even thousands and millions of people through their work. Being idle and sitting on the beach can make them feel anxious and as if they’re wasting their time, when it could be better spent doing what they do best and providing value for the world. Who are you to waste a gift that you’ve been given?
It’s all to their own. The ending was true. Every person needs some self reflection, and if they decide that work makes them happiest – so be it. We need people like that too. But there’s nothing wrong with cutting yourself some slack and being happy in the moment, not just 40 years in the future.
