Being in control
Most of us, or I am sure all of us have been in difficult situations. ‘Difficult’ is perceived differently by each one of us. For some it is not being able to understand while for others it is not being able to find a workaround for the situation, or for that matter anything that you define as difficult. Now I have come to realize something common in the behavior of people, something that is very natural and does not at all sound wrong. Infact it’s like a natural instinct for all of us until and unless someone has actually had the time to observe themselves for long hours and change it.
Negative tendencies. What I mean is, from the moment we are put into a situation which demands a little more than usual attention, effort and concentration, our mind slips into this loop of negative thoughts. Our head is filled with all kinds of thought about the obstacles we might face, and most importantly how terribly we will fail at crossing them. For starters, doing a background check on the obstacles isn’t wrong, what is wrong is thinking about failing at them. And it is not good because with this one single thought a whole new chain reaction is born which makes our mind, which is essentially us, believe that we cannot succeed in the given task at hand. And that’s exactly what happens.
We can go back a few minutes, stop at our analysis phase and tell ourselves that this is something that requires a little more effort than everyday and it’s just another task at hand and I can do it. That’s it. Easy. You essentially changed the situation into a battlefield where you are at your best. Calming the mind amidst all the turmoil ensures that whatever you do, you are at your best and you have no regrets whatsoever the result be. And most importantly you achieved something which you wouldn’t have been able to yesterday, given the chaotic state of your mind.
I hear people telling me how situations are not under control, how everything is so random and how no one can do anything about it. You can. Everything’s always under control. You are always under control. It’s just a matter of whether you want to, or not…
