Perfection : A Utopian idea
‘Virgo’s are perfectionists!’-read my horoscope. I was happy but didn’t quite really understand, the term. But how does that matter, it only means that you have to do all your work completely and perfectly, to the point.Later that day, in class I was shouted at by one of my classmates for how clumsily I had done my work.I felt bad, of course but was confused.I hadn’t quite understood the idea of Perfection, it seemed, but what was wrong after all. This incident set the wheel of thought going.
Perfectionism is virtual. One can never be a perfectionist. It’s just not possible. Then where did the term originate from?!Perfectionism is relative. You see Einstein gave us a very important concept of relativity. This is just that.People tend to think that they can do their tasks to utmost degree of accuracy and skill, but what they fail to understand is that they do their tasks which reaches a level of perfectionism which they comprehend, not where others expect them to be.And that is completely agreeable.Relativity is right at the center of this.We try to judge the level of the work we did relative to someone else’s scale of measurement, doing which gives us a sense of utter disappointment as we would never be able to match someone else’s level of doing things.Because that’s not how we imagined things to be.Perfectionism demands individualism. The freedom and authority of doing an action. The recognition of the idea that whatever I do is judged and evaluated by me.To remain undeterred in the storm and not step down from thy goal, continuously working and learning, because that is the essence of it after-all!!
