5 Ways To Become A Bad Manager

“People quit their boss, not their job!”

One thing which is mostly common in people leaving their current job is that they are not happy with their bosses. If you want to retain the right people in your team then this is time you start realizing that what makes them quit. And, if not, probably below are the reasons you can try for loosing the best of lot:

Don’t engage your employees: Micro managing everything leads to a situation where none of the employees feels empowered. You need to understand that as you start giving responsibilities to your employees, by still managing the things for it is getting done properly or not, they feel important and this feeling fills them with a sense of importance that can be seen in their actions.

That awkward moment when you think you are an important asset, and you are not.

Keep a one-way communication: “Hello?.. Hello?……Er... Hello?” Listen to what your employees trying to tell you, they might need your help in fixing a gap and you might be delaying it seeking an excuse of bandwidth or rather you are not able to plan your day so efficiently that you are missing out on important things. This situation leads to nothing but loss of opinions. You got to move your organization into the future to understand the existing gaps in the system and fix it. But guess what, you don’t have bandwidth for THIS. Yeah!

It is not distance that keeps people apart, but lack of communication.

Coaching? Excuse me!: Trust employees, coach them, mentor them. Many employees loose their track in the absence it. And this is disastrous, since they are probably being judged on the end-results, and we fail to understand the real challenge. We should understand and believe that the right coaching and mentoring of the employees can produce excellent results and bless ourselves with the right people around us. Invest time in people to get the best returns.

All coaching is, is taking a person where he can’t take himself.

I am “The One”: None of the managers, has ever become a great manager without the contribution of its team. Learn to give credits, this will not only encourage them to put in more effort but also assures them that they are getting recognized. This fills them with a sense of self realization of immense potential they have and ensures their contribution in making a fabulous team. By doing this act, you’ll also prove the right traits of being a manager and set an example.

A good leader takes a little more than his share of the blame, a little less than his share of the credit.

Let them be confused: Employees often quit when they have no idea that in what way they are contributing, many managers do not talk about the vision in general and its impact in particular. Hence, many souls roam around confused thinking what they are doing is not important to anyone. Being a manager, its your responsibility to align the employees to one vision and make them feel significant for what they are contributing to.

Its a terrible thing to see and have no vision.

Now is the time to act, before it is too late. Managers need to work on certain things to change the uninspired employees into the best asset they can have. Choice is clear, isn’t it?
