The Irrational Benefits of Choosing a Niche
A while back I joined a chatbot agency mastermind.
That is, a mastermind group dedicated to helping chatbot agencies grow their business.
Marketers from all across the globe joined for a small monthly fee to collaborate and gain resources to grow our businesses.
Though we focus on chatbots, the core principles for success are the same for any marketing agency.
In fact, you could probably find application in any business.
After many months of weekly meetings here are my two most important factors for success:
- Choosing a niche to market to
- Accepting only qualified clients
1. Your niche helps you gain traction and expertise that you can’t get from doing work for any and everyone.
2. Accepting only qualified clients. For me, this would be those who already make money, understand marketing, are not startups or wishful thinkers praying that you are going to be their savior when they have no track record of selling their product… etc.
Those points are clearly wisdom.
But making the decision follow them can be difficult.
Fear and scarcity will challenge your resolve.
Fear and scarcity make us want to work with anyone… clouding us from choosing a target market.
Why not take the bird in hand and just see what happens?
It can feel irrational to say ‘NO’ to business.
But by taking anyone, we can fall into cycles of up and down, progress and sabotage.
Niching and quality clients will create momentum and traction for long-term success.
