My Major Keys To Life: Running. Reading. Meditating.

Note: The following are 3 habits I have cultivated for many years that have contributed immensely to my physical and mental growth. This is me sharing the journey of what has worked for me.

Running

Words struggle to describe the feeling of overcoming the physical and mental that exhaustion not only running, but physical activity and competitive sport can provide. If you can persevere and learn how to say no to the voice in your head that’s screaming for you to stop, then I truly believe you can build a relentless mental fortitude that can dramatically increase your potential for greatness. This is something I learnt through thousands of hours of basketball, running and weight training.

Reading

If your not striving to strengthen and evolve your mind, then you’re dying. It’s as simple as that. Your personal evolution is intrinsically linked to the amount of ideas and experiences you subject yourself to. Don’t be afraid of any ideas or experiences. Read and absorb everything with a child like wonder. The more ideas you can absorb, the more you have to offer the the world, and the better you’ll be able to navigate the chaos of life.

Meditating

“Is an amazing way of deepening the creative process, deepening presence, expanding your energetic relationship with the world and realising most of the thinking we do springs from mental addiction and much of peoples life’s are spent in an emotional swirl — which is a reactive one. And having a relationship to presence allows you to see past that illusion of that emotional swirl. “— Josh Waitzkin

Imagine if your watching a movie of your thoughts projected onto a wall — that’s what mediating is a lot of the time. When you first start mediating your internal dialogue is:

My god is that really my brain?! Its like a caged monkey on meth bouncing off the walls. Its insane.

But eventually you start to be able to not just feel the thoughts, but observe them. So when you loose control of your emotions you gain the insight and ability to observe, analyse and apply control over these emotions to distinguish why, and how it’s happening. You donate yourself the power to realise you can take control over the state your experiencing.
