Elements and Principles of Design

This infographic shows the elements and principles of design, as well as a sketch of what they are, what they do and why they are important. First, the colors of red, white, gray, brown and orange create harmony and repetition throughout the infographic. Line is seen in a zig zag shape, and is used to portray neatness and order. Shape and texture are both building blocks of the infographic, and create movement and represent the building blocks of the infographic. These three elements are the first three needed to begin the infographic.

Next, space, size and value come into play. With the use of white space, balance is found in the infographic and it breaks the icons and words away from each other. This makes the infographic easier to read, as well as aesthetically pleasing. Size creates hierarchy through the infographic, which again breaks up the designs and puts emphasis on different elements. The size correlates with the hierarchy, and draws attention to the most important factors of the infographic. Value coincides with color, which can the shape lighter or darker. Making sure both sides are even and symmetrical creates balance throughout the important when it comes to the shape and size of the icon and whole infographic. Emphasis relates to hierarchy, and forms a relationship with the icons and the design as a whole. Rhythm then follows, which leads the viewers and creates a pathway for their eyes.

Finally, unity and contrast are the final elements seen in the infographic. When looking at the completed infographic, it should be aesthetically pleasing and readable. Contrast relates to the value, and emphasizing the shades of colors helps different objects stand out when needed to be.

The use of icons are used in a creative and aesthetically pleasing way to represent the element and give the viewer the visual they need to help fully understand the element.
