NEW DELHI: In ten tournaments so far this year, PV Sindhu has made it to the final just once. But that is not making the world â5 shuttler lose any sleep. The two-time BWF World Championships runners-up is flying to Switzerland with a purpose. âHope I get back with a medal and definitely change the colour.â But more than hope, there was conviction in her voice, despite a title-less 2019 so far.
Sindhuâs best chance to win a title this year was at the Indonesia Open last month. She defeated the higher-ranked Nozomi Okuhara and Chen Yu Fie in the quarters and semis, respectively, to be just a win away from lifting the trophy in Jakarta. But Japanâs Akane Yamaguchi, stood in the way and then took the title home.
Less than a week later, at the Japan Open, Sindhu ran into Yamaguchi again, and lost again â this time in the quarterfinals.
On both occasions, it was a straight-games loss for the Rio Olympics silver medallist.
âAgainst Yamaguchi, I feel I played well, but winning and losing is part of the game,â said Sindhu talking to Timesofindia.com. âParticularly against her (Yamaguchi), I think if I would have won the first game, then it could have been different.â
Sindhu feels thereâs very little to differentiate between the top-ranked players in the world.
âIf you see the top 10 to 15 players now in the womenâs circuit, they are all at the same level. Itâs just that one day, whoever plays well goes on to win, thatâs what I feel,â the 24-year-old added.
