The stupidity of publishing in academia
Laura Noren

Good points, but publishing in open access journals or making an article open access is not free and that fee falls on the author(s). This can be upwards of $3,000, so now you are paying to make your research findings available to all. When the cost falls on the author and it feels like you are paying a journal to publish your work, it feels like no one finds value in your work, which is why people continue to publish in traditional journals and opt out of open access unless there are funds available.
