Attention Nicholas Grossman: Trump spoke on policy — but only in very general terms. There was nothing new, nothing beyond what had already been stated.
The policy statements were mere filler. The true message was Trump himself and that monstrous emotional exploitation of the veteran widow.
The media rightly pointed to tone; because that was the strategy of the speech: to adopt what might be called a more presidential and through the medium of emotional exploitation more magnanimous posture.
The speech was pure display and meant to be.
We learned nothing about policy — that is, unless we hadn’t been paying attention for the last 6 weeks.
