Most popular language implementations on GitHub

There are many rankings of programming languages popularity, as TIOBE and RedMonk.

We used our GitTrends service to provide a different ranking, based on the number of stars of the language implementation (compiler, interpreter etc).

Our ranking only considers languages whose implementation is publicly available on GitHub. Stars is the GitHub social coding feature that allows users to show appreciation or interest for a project. Therefore, our intention is to reveal the most admired programming language implementations, among the GitHub community of millions of users.

As we can see, in November, 2016, the top-3 most starred programming language implementations on GitHub are: PHP (30K stars), Julia (19K stars), and Rust (17K stars).
