You don’t understand how much gratitude I have for Solange singing Selena Quintanilla at concerts, but I would never make an outrageous statement about culture appropriation of Mexican-Americans because that is plain rude. It’s about appreciation and respect. Music is the perfect unifier, so to speak, in bridging together our differences through intersectionality because the historically oppressed possess many similarities with experiences in police brutality, incarceration, systemically lower wages, often portrayed as negative stereotypes on tv. I hope one day we can all dance together and spread love than hatred. It’s what Solange and Kali Uchis would want.
