This is a fascinating trend from an analytical standpoint. I think this trend adds to the existing push back on unrealistic body standards perpetrated by the media. Furthermore, it shows where social media activism can be helpful or meaningful. Although typically associated with Debord’s theory of the spectacle, this type of social media activism has the potential to create micro-level change on a person to person basis, empowering another individual to realize the realities of body transformation and even manipulation.
