Diabetic Retinopathy Treatment

Diabetic retinopathy, the leading cause of blindness worldwide, occurs as a change in the blood vessels of the retina as a result of diabetes. The retinal damage and impairment of vision lead to diabetic retinopathy treatment. It is a condition that is caused by damage to the blood vessels of the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye (retina). It is mainly a diabetic complication and affects in two stages, nonproliferative retinopathy and proliferative retinopathy.

Initially, diabetic retinopathy may not manifest any symptoms or may only result in minor vision issues. But it might result in blindness. Any person with type 1 or type 2 diabetes has the potential to acquire the illness. The likelihood of developing this ocular problem increases with the duration of diabetes and the degree of blood sugar management.

The symptoms of diabetic retinopathy are blurry vision, fluctuating vision, poor color vision & contrast and floaters or blind spots in the field of vision, a strange dark or empty spot in the center of the vision, and a sudden or total loss of vision. The treatment involves laser for diabetic retinopathy which shrinks blood vessels in the eye and seals the leak from abnormal blood vessels. Diabetic retinopathy surgery is also used to treat this condition by repairing retinal bleeding.

Diabetic Retinopathy Diagnosis

How diabetes may impact vision:

The layer of cells at the back of the eye that is light-sensitive and transforms light into electrical signals is known as the retina. The brain receives the signals and converts them into the visuals you see. The retina requires a steady flow of blood, which is delivered to it through a network of minuscule blood capillaries. A blood sugar level that is consistently high can harm these blood vessels over time in 3 primary stages:

Background retinopathy:

Tiny blood vessel bulges form, which may bleed slightly but typically do not impair vision.

Pre-proliferative retinopathy:

More severe and pervasive blood vessel alterations, including more serious eye hemorrhage. Proliferative retinopathy causes the retina to generate weak, readily bleeding blood vessels and scar tissue, which can cause some vision loss. At ASG Eye Hospitals, we take pride in providing the best eye solutions for diabetic retinopathy to people irrespective of their awareness, knowledge, and financial levels.
