5 things NRIs are tired of hearing

  1. You didn’t want to go outside, why do you suddenly want to live outside now?
Well, people change their desires and dreams. With time and situation, people do change their mind. You might not want to purchase a car now, but you might in the near future. So, it’s completely normal to have a phase from not wanting to go outside to getting a job outside India.
  2. You must be earning and saving so much. You are now super rich.
This is a myth which almost all Indians have — if someone is working outside India, they are rich and will have 2–3 bungalows / cars when they come back. Well, that’s not the case, if someone is working outside, they are spending money in outside currency only, where prices are higher. Moreover, it depends on an individual’s lifestyle as well, no matter in which country they stay/work.
  3. There are no attachments among people in foreign countries. How would you raise your child.
This again totally depends on parenthood, no matter if you live in India or outside, your kid will learn what you teach them. And to be frank, nowadays, even in India, I don’t see that attachment between children and their parents which used to be there in 90s. Now children in India want to be independent too, live in a different city and visit home during festivals.
  4. Tere toh mazze hai yar
Well, as an NRI, we are also here to work and not on vacation. Not sure how that is different from working in India. Also, India also has many things to enjoy. It depends on your personality, how you want to enjoy and live your life. :)
  5. ‘India is the best’ kind off thinking/talk
Of course, India has many better things and is best in many ways as compared to other countries. But, there are certainly some better things which other countries have and, as an individual, we should be open-minded and accept what is good in India and what is not and try to bring better things to India.

Hope many NRI’s can relate to this. If you are tired of hearing any other things from your friends/ family, do share in comments.
