Launch announcement (October 2015): As our local startup community has been growing in vibrancy and ambition, the launch of Startup Grind in Kerala will bring great value to the new entrepreneurs in town. The monthly events will bring together founders, CEOs, innovators, educators, investors, developers, policy makers and experts in various industries to share their wisdom on building great companies.

Thiruvananthapuram is home to many technology companies in Kerala. Through Technopark, we have seen the growth of Kerala-based companies such as IBS, UST Global, SunTec along with Infosys, TCS and global players such as Ernst & Young and Allianz. It is not just big companies but also startups which have found their place in Technopark. Since launching in 2006, KSUM (Kerala Startup Mission) has provided spring boarding to 200+ startups. We also have Startup Village, Ernst & Young Accelerator program and an exclusive incubation program for women entrepreneurs at WBIP. Kerala has an excellent ecosystem that fosters entrepreneurship.



Dr.Jayasankar is the CEO of Kerala Startup Mission. Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) formerly known as ‘Technopark Technology Business Incubator’ , is the India’s first and Most successful Non Academic Business Incubator, hosted and housed inside the Asia’s Largest IT Park Technopark. Technopark Technology Business Incubator (T-TBI), a joint association of Technopark, Trivandrum and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, to help the technology business start-ups, started operation during 2007. KSUM is the pioneer champion among incubators which functions with a vision to support and nurture the startups in the state of Kerala. It also is the first non-academic business incubator. The Technopark TBI spreads over 20,000 sq ft is situated in the lush green and world class IT infrastructure, The Technopark, the biggest in the continent. Since launching in 2006, KSUM includes more than 200+ of India’s most promising startups. Prior to KSUM, Dr. Jayasankar has worked with ICT Academy of Kerala, Kerala IT mission, TCS among other organizations.



Kerala footballer and college-drop-out builds ground-breaking and self-funded global IT Company in Singapore There was a time when Varun Chandran, 32, ate only once a day and struggled to make ends meet and he played sevens football in Malabar to make a living. Born into a poor farmers family in Kerala, India, Varun distinguished himself early in football which got him a scholarship by the Kerala Government to enter a renowned sports school. He went on to become the captain of the youth national and university teams and was awarded the gold medal for best youth footballer in Kerala. Football eventually led to business and today Varun is an entirely self-made entrepreneur and head of Corporate360, a ground-breaking global IT company with operations in four continents. His company introduces an innovative sales intelligence software for the tech industry. Some of the world’s largest IT-companies and tech start-ups are C360 clients. This two-year-old company is the first in Asia to offer a marketing data platform at a global scale, exclusively designed for tech sector. KU-TBSC has been set to promote student entrepreneurship at the University of Kerala and will be a nodal agency for implementing the startup policy. He played a vital role in incubating the very first student startup in Kerala. He is the author of ‘Innovation in University of Kerala’ and a key contributor for various policies concerning academia and student entrepreneurship. He is an electrical engineer who had his education from University of Kerala, IIT-Bombay and University of Cambridge, UK. He has taught in various engineering colleges and universities, both in India and abroad since 1987. He had served as Director of C-DIT, Govt. of Kerala and also as Visiting Professor in University of Korea, Seoul. His activities include teaching, research and popular science writing in IT, Computational Biology and also some interdisciplinary areas.



Sijo Kuruvilla George is the Founding CEO of Startup Village, India’s first Public-Private-Partnership Technology Business Incubator. Currently, he is a consultant at Kerala Startup Mission. Sijo serves as mentor & advisor to several startups. Startups he serves as mentor & advisor include Flip Technologies, Sastra Robotics, iTraveller, Agrima, Riafy, DIYHacking. He is the recipient of Rajeev Circle Fellowships by Motwani Jadeja Family Foundation and the International Visitor Leadership Forum (IVLP), prestigious professional exchange program of the Department of State. He is also co-founder of Mob Me. He has previously worked as a consultant with PWC and Deolitte. During his consulting tenure, he has worked with organisations like DFID, World Bank and departments of several governments like Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Tamil Nadu.


Chief Digital Officer, NYC

Sreenath “Sree” Sreenivasan is the chief digital officer of New York City. He was previously the chief digital officer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and chief digital officer of Columbia University. He has been a technology journalist based in New York City and served as an academic administrator and professor in the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. In 2015, he was named one of Fast Company magazine’s Most Creative People of the year. He was also identified as the most influential Chief Digital Officer of 2016 by CDO Club.


DISTRICT COLLECTOR OF KOZHIKODE, Founder Compassionate Kozhikode

N. Prasanth IAS is the District Collector of Kozhikode. He launched Compassionate Kozhikode initiative, which is one of the first and largest civic engagement projects by a district administration in Kerala. Under this initiative, using social media and technology, the district administration along with the participation of civic bodies, government agencies and volunteers address various issues that need urgent attention. In 2016, the German organization The International Tourismus-Börse has selected Compassionate Kozhikode as one of 50 inspirational global projects.



In 2012, Arjun Pillai cofounded Profoundis along with his three friends. After two years and three failures, Profoundis came up with a successful product Vibe. Vibe is a sales intelligence tool for identifying prospective customers. In 2016, Profoundis was acquired by FullContact making it the first technology product exit from Kerala. Arjun is a graduate of Microsoft Ventures, Startup Chile and Blackbox Connect Silicon Valley programmes. He is also advisor to many technology startups in SaaS Space.
