Feeding the Right Wolf

There’s a story about feeding the right wolf that lives within us. It goes something like this: We each have two wolves within us — one that lives on anger and greed, another that is full of love and compassion. The story goes on to say that the wolf that is dominate in our lives is the one we feed.
This is a great story that highlights how our thoughts can alter our lives. We can feed the angry wolf and live a life of anger and negativity, or we can feed the compassionate, loving wolf and live a more fulfilling life.
This trick is that we try not to eliminate the wolf of anger. To do so only makes him larger and more dominate in our lives. It’s only by accepting this part of ourselves that we can reduce its negative impact.
Which wolf will you feed? I choose to feed the loving, compassionate wolf. We can make this choice by becoming aware of our thoughts and emotions, and we can perform this noble act through meditation.
With an understanding of how we can feed the right wolf, we can improve our lives, build stronger, more compassionate relationships, and live in an abundance of happiness.
The story of feeding the right wolf makes it easy to understand how our emotions impact our lives. Change takes practice and patience.
I want to leave you with a beautifully illustrated video that tells the story of the two wolves, narrated by the amazing Sharon Salberg. Watch it and join me in feeding the right wolf.
