This is a great analogy. I’ve also noticed as you move to a bigger, fatter marker- it’s indicative of the greater confidence you have in those decisions. So I might even start the spectrum out at pencil (perhaps for the student) trying lots of things to learn along the way what works. Once you have a better sense of systems and how to approach the problem, maybe take away the eraser. You’re more confident in your gut assumptions, and know you can always adapt (rather than start over) in the future.
