Bad Design
There are several reasons a design can be considered as bad. Some of the reasons for a design to be considered bad are; if it fulfills all the functional requirements but the user interface is not intuitive or if it doesn’t work functionally and the user interface is not intuitive or if the functional requirements are not met but the user interface is intuitive.
Banner web landing page
The landing page, after logging in, of the banner web has a rather difficult UI. The exit actually means log out The information that is most relevant are not quite clear. The two tabs Main menu and active info are active, which is a little misguiding as we cannot determine which tab is currently active and which tab’s information is being shown in the tab body.
Navigation difficulties
This site from my own user’s perspective is primarily used for the following things; to register for courses, pay bills, check in every semester. However, there is no straight forward way of achieving these operations.
If you wish to register for a course then you have to navigate to the student service tab and then click on the registration link, this redirects you to a different page that asks you to select semester and faculty and then finally you are prompted to pick a course. Once you figure it out you can make it work but it is not very intuitive and it doesn’t give any good feedback either.
Another commonly used feature is the student bills. However, finding the students e-bills requires a fair amount of navigating just to figure out where to find the bills even then it only provides you with a link to a different page you need to log in into to access the bills.
The design of the banner web doesn’t meet all the user requirements neither does it have an intuitive user interface. Navigation through it is very difficult and it is very hard to keep track of your previous actions. Overall the design can be considered to be a bad one.
