The most visited holy shrine of Hindus, Badrinath is positioned between the two mountains Nar and Narayan. Among all the Char Dhams, this is known for its stunning locales and holds huge significance in the heart of devotees. The holy shrine is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, where lakhs of devotees visit to seek blessings. Interestingly, this is the only shrine which forms part of both the Chota Char Dham and India Char Dham. The magnificent BadrinathTemple has a stunning colorful entrance gate which is also known as the Singhdwar.

According to the legend, when Lord Vishnu sat in penance, Goddess Laxmi transformed herself into a berry tree to shade the Lord from sun. This holy shrine has also been abode of several pilgrims, saints and sages who came here for enlightenment and salvation of their soul. In the 8th century, Adiguru Shankracharya recovered the Lord Badrinath’s idol from Narad Kund and re-founded to revive the honor of Hindusim.

How to Reach

The holy Hindu town as well as nagar panchayat in Chamoli District in the Uttarakhan, Badrinath is situated at a height of 11204 feet between Nar-Narayan hills along the banks of Alaknanda River.

You can reach Badrinath by various modes of transportation, as it well connected by all means.

By Air: You can reach by air, as the nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport close to Dehradun which is about 317 kms from Badrinath.

To make things easier, helicopter services are also provided which is hardly 100km. Various helicopter services embark from Dehradun to Badrinath.

By Train: You can also board train, as the nearest Railway stations are at Rishikesh (297 kms), Haridwar (324 kms) and Kotadwar (327 kms).

By Road: Badrinath is well connected to road and regular bus services ply towards the holy shrine. It is well connected to Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dehradun, DevPrayag, RudraPrayag, Kotdwar, Joshi Math and other hill stations of Garhwal and Kumaon region.

Best Time to Visit

The ideal time to visit Badrinath is from the month of April-May. During the arrival of winters, the doors of temple are closed, i.e. around October and reopened around Mid-April.

Some of the popular places around Badrinath are Swargarohini, Laxmi Van, Vasu Dhara Falls, Bheem pul, Satopanth, Tapt Kund, Panch Shila, Narad Kund, Brahma Kamal, Neelkanth Parvat and Vasudhara fall.
