Reading sudden tsunami of news articles, posts and comments about what Aamir Khan said.
His wife , a Hindu is worried about growing intolerance in India against minorities and asks him whether they should leave India. Social media erupted and criticized him because apparently Indians made him superstar and now he is questioning india’s fabric!!
Why this sudden urge of speaking against someone’s opinion about a situation? Why such objectionable language? Why we feel like the guardians of the country?
Are we really pained at what is happening or being provoked by bad act only a handful?
Do we, the Indians want to forget what our teachings are?
It is really sad to see educated (assuming people accessing social networks, sharing news articles or posts can read and comprehend what is being said hence calling them “educated”) people reacting in such way paints a very alarming picture. How are we then different than others?
Wouldn’t it be better if there were posts telling Amir, his family and the minorities that “don’t worry about such hatred and irresponsible statements, I am secular and love every fellow Indian be him or her of any religion”.
If millions of Indians on social media say this then it’s a strong message to the haters and politicians. This will also be comforting to minorities.
I had come across an article that said silence of majority of peaceful and secular people is causing more damage. Silence is not always good.
It is no brainer that only peace and harmony can take the nation forward. If we really care about future then we need to demonstrate that we care for everyone and everyone is important for path towards great future.
#intolerance or #tolerance is the choice we need to make wisely.
