Is Life Fair?
“The only thing that makes life unfair is the delusion that it should be fair”-Steve Maraboli
Have you ever, while facing a difficult situation, asked yourself — Why is this happening to me?
Yes, you have, a several times!
We often are agitated and troubled when an unwelcome event occurs in our life. The fact that we cannot control the outcome, often leads to the mounting frustration. At that time, we are so deeply engrossed in those moments, that we are just unable to see the bigger picture. The first and the foremost thing to realize is that we are not the first ones to experience those hardships! People have overcome those obstacles before and have moved forward.
I didn’t get selected in my dream company because of a petty mistake!
I was promised this during interview, but the actual work is entirely different!
I managed to get appraised by a meagre 10% due to office politics!
I have broken up recently as my partner cheated on me!
I am not getting the job in Delhi so that I can live with my wife!
These are a few problems that majority of us face in our lifetimes. Discussing about these, often eats up a majority of our productive time which could have been used to overcome these challenges. While encountering this distress, the easiest thing to do is to curse our luck!
‘Why is this happening to me? I am a good person. I did a lot of hard work.
This is unfair! Life is unfair!’
Yes, it is! Why do you expect the life to be fair?
If life is not fair to people who die in terrorist attacks;
If life is not fair to people who are born physically disabled;
If life is not fair to people who have lost their parents at a tender age;
If life is not fair to people who daily die in the road accidents;
Then why should it be fair to you?
As compared to actual sufferings in the world, the ones which we fret upon are very trivial issues which will not even matter in the long run.
“Life isn’t fair. It never will be. Quit trying to make it fair. You don’t need it to be fair. Go make life unfair to your advantages.” — Robert Kiyosaki
