Breaking the Grass Ceiling at SXSW
What better way to launch a ground breaking, or “grass breaking,” book like Breaking the Grass Ceiling than at one of the top conferences and festivals in the US? Last month, our authors joined the cannacentric side of South By Southwest for a book signing and panel at the renowned, sold out conference. At the Breaking the Grass Ceiling: Women, Weed and Business panel, author and Point Seven Group Founder Ashley Picillo joined Simply Pure’s Wanda James, New Frontier Data’s Giadha deCarcer, Canna Advisors’ Diane Czarkowski to talk about their trials and tribulations as female leaders in the cannabis industry.
This year, SXSW hosted more panels and sessions for cannabis than in any previous years. The increase in education around marijuana may be due to the outcome of this year’s election legalizing cannabis in California, Massachusetts, Maine and Nevada and decriminalization in Arkansas, Florida and North Dakota. Over half of our nation is now canna-friendly in one way or another! Further, the cannabis industry has grown significantly from 2016 to 2017. In 2016 alone, marijuana generated nearly $7 billion. According to Forbes, cannabis sales are projected to top $20.2 billion by 2021 assuming a compound annual growth rate of 25%. That means that the legal cannabis industry is growing faster than the dot com era!
With the large growth of ganja and very promising future, it is no wonder SXSW included so many cannabis sessions at their conference this year. We were very honored to be included in this year’s festival alongside such highly esteemed cannabiz entrepreneurs also listed on the lineup.
