Gold Star Family Day
Families gathered around yesterday in honor of the first ever Gold Star Family Day in the state of Illinois.
Governor Bruce Rauner signed a new bill marking September 26th Gold Star Family Day. Governor Rauner marked the day specifically following Gold Star Mothers’ Day to allow all family members to be honored for their tragedies.
“It was a privilege for me to sign the bill this year to create Gold Star Family Day in Illinois,” said Governor Rauner.
Governor Rauner attended the Gold Star Family event in Capitol Rotunda along with members of Gold Star Families, The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs and Survivor Outreach.
The Governor signed the bill on Veterans Day at the Illinois State Fair in August 2016 in support of all fallen soldiers and their mourning families. Gold Star Family Day is meant to honor all family members of men and women who lost their lives during their service with the Armed Forces.
Senator Karen McConnaughay gave a speech at the event thanking all who attended and Governor Rauner for signing the bill.
“Today is no difference as he [Governor Rauner] and all of us honor the Gold Star families,” said Senator McConnaughay.
This new law will allow all family members of fallen soldiers to be recognized for their sacrifices.
