We Will Fight For Bernie Sanders — Millennial Perspective

Once upon a time, there was a land that was synonymous with the word “freedom,” where dreams were born, and all were equal. Yes, just a fairytale. Since the beginning, the reality that millions endure is an unfair system that favors those with more inked paper. This paper made with a mixture of linen, cotton, or other textile fibers, adorned with the portraits of those who founded our nation, dictates who lives a kind life and who lives a fragile one. This paper made with the same materials that we drape over our backs, determines how we define and see ourselves reflected in the government. As one happily drowns in their pool of money, “fair” is but a funny four-letter adjective and “justice” is but a blurred inconvenience. As another suffocates in their debt, “fair” is but a patronizing insult and “justice” is but a mockery.
This land was never ours. We have pushed back endlessly, but never enough to tip the scales. Lady Justice: “the blindfold represents objectivity, in that justice is or should be meted out objectively, without fear or favour, regardless of money, wealth, fame, power, or identity.” Maybe we need to remove that blindfold and force her to see the anguished society crumbling down around her. She’ll witness a family going bankrupt paying for medical bills as another family saves millions in tax havens. She’ll witness a child being maimed/killed in broad daylight for the crime of being born with a different pigment painting his/her body; as the perpetrator files a lawsuit for grievances against the family. She’ll witness a promising student choose between education and basic life necessities; as the president of the university makes $1,000,000+. She’ll witness mothers & fathers being ripped away from their newborn too early in order to go back to work; as the CEO receives $16,000,000+/year. She’ll witness corporations & fossil fuel industries buying politicians’ votes, their bank accounts being more of importance than the health of the already struggling poor & middle class. Their power being more vital than the food needed for a hungry child’s mouth, the shelter needed for a battle-fought veteran, the clean water needed to survive.
We can never thank Bernie Sanders enough for his life’s work of endless bravery, wise courage and unrelenting tenacity. But we will not let any of it be in vain.
We will take back what they stole from us. Our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We will demand what they never gave us. Our right to feel safe. Our right to live in an equal country, in every single way. We will fight for our right as human beings.
Fight.
Yes, we will.
