Today I witnessed 10 teenage girls, ages 14–15, lose eight consecutive volleyball games in a row.

For three hours straight I watched my JV girls volleyball squad chuck their bodies through the air in pursuit of stray balls, bad passes and desperate attempts to get a fast spinning volleyball over a net. They made mistakes. They fell apart. They smiled and relished the occasional small victory…
