The Winter Awaits
Oct 3, 2013
Today marks 48 days until I leave for Whistler, BC. A town known for the summer and winter resort Whistler Blackcomb. A place where legendary mountain biking meets amazing winter skiing and snowboarding. This year will be my first time traveling that far to ride. 15 hour drive, depending on winter conditions of course. With each passing day the threat of snow here at home looms over us like an eagle stalking it’s pray. Everyone complains about how cold it is and how horrid the weather is. People I work with are predicting that it should snow within a couple weeks. Just the thought of snow makes me giggle with excitement. I’m getting so antsy to ride.
This coming winter season marks my second season. Last season I was given an old K2 board. Massive gashes plagued that board. The base totally wrecked. I knew no different on how a board should perform or be fitted to my body. I couldn’t ride at all. A total green. Bunny hill was too fast for me at times. My boots were way too massive as well. I’m sure I could have pulled them off my feet if I tried hard enough. Now I can ride easy blacks, I have a good board setup in which I understand the features it has and what they are used for. My boots fit properly and my stance has finally been locked down. I learned to wax my own board too. Helping my friends out with free waxing helped as well. Their payment was allowing me to use their boards for experience in perfecting the art that waxing a board is. But my learning to ride wasn’t all in my hands. The many people that helped me along the way, the former instructors that I had as friends. I wouldn’t be riding like I have with out them.
This season I have new snowboard outwear to help me stay dry and warm this season. Burton AK outerwear and some Helly Hansen will do it quite will. Along with the outerwear is a new armor setup so I can ride with more confidence and push my limits farther. Pushing to hopefully ride hard blacks or even double blacks this season. Time will tell.
Along with Whistler, BC this season, will be Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Possibly hitting up Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Davos, Laax Fillms, Verbier, St. Anton, Zermatt, and many many more. 33 days will be spent in the alps.
Life is an adventure and you never know where you will end up!
Can’t wait until this trip gets going!
See ya then!
